There's only a couple tracks on RENAISSANCE i don't really like but the rest is pure bliss.

That Apple Music list was stupid and not worth getting hung up on, but that #1 pick felt so transparently cynical that I laughed out loud when I saw it.

It’s an okay album. Maybe it’s worth the top 50 on a 90’s list, but #1 all time is absurd. Even the most progressive people I know clocked from a mile away that was just them ticking off boxes.

Well this is purely based on personal opinion then. It's been very highly ranked on many lists I've seen. What's so cynical about it? It ticks boxes but it's a great album and they probably wanted to award a living artist

Again, so many things to laugh about on the list and you choose to laugh at Lauryn Hill at #1? It's not in my personal top 50 either but it's a great album nonetheless

Yeah I “chose” to laugh at that, as did thousands of other people online. It’s probably the decision most people are mocking besides Swift beating Pet Sounds and Revolver. The logic behind the decision was “black female artist in a popular music genre from the last 30 years.” There was not a shred of sincerity in calculating that. It is absolutely in no universe a better record than any of the canonical classics from the 60’s and 70’s. If they wanted to be progressive without people rolling their eyes then they could have picked Nina Simone.

Yes, but it was obviously always going to be and to think it's a cynical pick is just stupid. It's also a great way to shout out a great album that many younger listeners may not have heard.

It really sounds more like you have a personal disdain for this record then actually having a reason to be so mad at the pick. It's probably sightly overrated because it's her only album, but it's a great album as well. Your personal feelings are rotting your brain cells right now

I think The Score is the better record.

Like this is a fine way of going about it, but to insult the pick and bash it over your own opinion on it is weird. It is a widely acclaimed record from a living artist that they probably wanted to surprise. And yes, she is a black female, and yes she made an outstanding album
