I still think CD got the best skits and kinda pinpoints the absurdity of hip hop skit culture perfectly. 3 skits in 4 songs is the biggest piss take ever and he just keeps going

I'll only listen to "Kim" on a serious, 2 am, light off can't sleep listen. Rare, but in that brief moment it is a terrifying masterpiece

I think it’s his best work, but I don’t listen to it very often. Every once in a while I’ll come back around to it and I’m blown away that anything like it exists. Kendrick’s attempt at something similar came off self important—where as Em at the time sounded self destructive in the kind of way a lot of incredibly uncomfortable but interesting art comes through.

And when you tie in "99 Bonnie and Clyde" coming right after "Kim" .... it's another level of f***ed up, all that sweet talk to his daughter after the most horrendous violence to his BM... truly psychotic

Kim felt extremely genuine on comparison though ... like if he wasn't able to express himself through song, he made you believe he'd really do that s***. It's f***ed up and i agree it's unlistenable most of the time but that's cause of his genuinely disturbing it is

Kendricks version was a one and done listen. A light hearted affair in comparison, and a facile attempt at the same kind of intense emotion Eminem nailed on Kim. We Cry Together is unlistenable for a different reason, it's just not a good song

I disagree but it's cool. Kim was pretty wack on first listen and I still hate it after revisiting. Some people think it's creative and I'm not mad at that.

I don't get your arguments about we cry together. One song is some horrorcore type s***, the other one is a domestic dispute type song that you can picture actually happening. You can't even compare the two. The reason I don't really go back to We Cry Together is because it's all too real.

I agree that it is a bit of a weird comparison, but they do n get compared a lot, if not just for the yelling lol. I was just retorting when you said both were trash. I almost agree... one of them is a cinematic horror film in musical form though lol

Yeah, I've always preferred Eminem when he gets into that real s*** like with "If I Had." That's one of my favorite joints by him period. The horrorcore stuff/shock raps don't really do it for me, but this song right here?

I do agree mostly. "Rock Bottom" is his best song ever imo. It still sounds so incredible to this day
