to anyone who has watched both cuts of The Shining: which one is better? I've only seen the international cut so far (about 14 times tho I think)
I didn’t know there were multiple cuts?
I know we're 15 days past the half way point of the year but I think my top 10 joints thus far have been, in no particular order:
Sturgill Simpson - Passage de Dusir
Adrianne Lenker - Bright Future
Lupe Fiasco - Samurai
Mach Hommy - Richaxxhaitian
Bianca Scout - Pattern Damage
Charli xcx - Brat
Waxahatchee - Tigers Blood
Gouge Away - Deep Sage
Julia Holter - Something in the Room She Moves
Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She
I haven’t heard much this year, but my favorites are:
Willi Carlisle - Critterland
The Lemon Twigs - A Dream Is All We Know
Adrianne Lenker - Bright Future
Kanye West - Vultures
Zach Bryan - The Great American Bar
Scene
Schoolboy Q - Blue Lips
I need to get around to the Julia Holter and Lupe records.
The first 3 are the only ones I really love.

there are two. A 144 minutes version which got released in the US and a 119 minutes version Kubrick cut for international release. Because of the poor showing in the US Kubrick cut it further down.

The US cut is the definitive one. The EU cut was, as you said, just studio pressuring to trim it down cause people didn't really f*** with it at first.

I always loved those manic strings and violins backing The Shining. Normally I like it way more minimal but it works like

The strings are from Penderecki.
One of the greats. Polymorphia
Actually, I use this exact scene when trying to convince people why 20th century classical 'avant garde' music doesn't suck. Just need to listen to it under a new frame of reference

it's my birthday and I'm seeing my idol in 3 hours

You know I take my sweet time working my way through filmographies and discographies but twin peak season 3 is one of those things that you need to do immediately because you could get hit by a car or something at any moment and you gotta see that first

Yeah good point about it being a recognizable domestic situation for the older generation. Managed to lay the drama out without making me want to self harm like Possession does.
