I need to check out Furiosa. I wasn't necessarily knocking Hollywood films for their pacing, but I'm usually more drawn to films with scenes of stillness, quiet, and pacing that isn't afraid to linger. From what I remember Burning has those qualities, but I haven't actually scene it since its premiere.

Emir has a nearly unparalleled skill at harnessing the chaos he creates perfectly within frame. Like how do you direct ducks, pigs, the wind and s*** as well as you do people.

Oh yeah I absolutely dig that too (although Tsai has proven that I have limits with his late career stuff). You'll be surprised how relatively contemplative Furiousa is. Peak zenith artful action film imo.

Also it sounds like you'll love this new Chinese movie I just watched called Black Dog. Track it down for sure.

And yeah haven't seen Taste Of Cherry. Need to get back on Abbas. Where Is The Friends Home is unforgettable.

Peppermint Candy is a mix of Memento, Sunset Boulevard (the story is told backwards) and something else entirely. A shattering drama.

Poetry has a pretty strong moral conflict at it's core. A bit similar to Mother by Bong I guess. The others are pretty good dramas. I guess Burning has the most beautiful visuals of his career.

Both are poetic but definitely go into the extreme territories when they have to (The Isle goes a bit overboard tho I think). That makes them so powerful imo.

Yeah I think he liked them. My dad has taught Eastern philosophy (Advaita) for a couple decades (kind of as a hobby, but he reads Sanskrit texts/meditates every day, etc. ) so I think he found them interesting since they're rooted in Buddhist parables. Every year I give him a list of about 20 films to watch and he seems to like most of them. He just watched Life and Nothing More and is about to watch Where is the Friend's Home.

I'll try and watch Peppermint Candy this week. Have had it on my watch list for like 6 years. I'm seriously slacking on all things film.

But I think it had an impossible job following up possibly the best film of the 21st century so far. Was a mistake to end with a fury road montage it just reminded u of a better movie lol

Megalopolis is foty easily but we waiting patiently on brutalist

Anora was good. I liked rebel ridge a lot too. Gonna see juror #2 tomorrow I think

I think it's at least as good as Fury Road. Said before but the episodic structure gave it a relatively stately, epic feel in comparison to FR's relentless momentum. Immediate 4k cop that I cannot wait to watch a third time any day now.

Anora was great. Rebel Ridge pretty good too, definitely better than his last one.

Think La Chimera is my favourite of the year though
