Bill Pullman always reminded me of Trent Reznor in that

they are easy to "get" if you know where the "real" portion is ("who is the dreamer?"). However, I'd agree though it definitely increases the character depth in his films. Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway and Blue Velvet to a lesser degree benefit greatly from that. Then again, his films make their themes pretty clear so it can always be felt.
