    @RVI
some girl invited me to charli xcx playing in nyc tonight. should I go?

500+ for tickets is ridiculous though.

My friend took me to a Denzel Curry show last night for my bday and well I hate to admit but I am too old for this s***

I knew rap shows were getting crazy over the last decade but the extent to which some of these dudes are strictly curating their shows to have maximum mosh pit madness is unreal.

    not for that price

shes not really that good of a performer, the atmosphere was just amazing when i saw her. not sure how much that is gonna translate to the bigger venues and surge of popularity she got tho

Yeah y'all cooked me for saying it but I was shocked at how sloppy her performance on SNL was a few years ago. Id take a messy pop star like her over someone with elite choreography etc any day but not at that price.

The Met had an exhibition of Caspar David Friedrich last month. Feel like you would dig him.

Both are (roughly) part of the same movement as John Martin, a painter I'd think you like. The painting you posted is inherited from the tradition of the early 19th century romantics like Martin and Friedrich.

Also you might like the fourth painting here by Thomas Cole. It's part of a series called The Course of an Empire which shows different stages of a civilizations growth from a primitive nature state to an imperial capital, to its destruction and then aftermath (return to nature)

The Savage State, or The Commencement of Empire

    The Arcadian or Pastoral State

    The Consummation of Empire

    Destruction

    Desolation

Also this is from a completely different era but the Odin painting you posted kind of reminds me of this painting. Always loved the magic realism in it.

Yea I love that era/style of painting, from another time of art

I was up for like 30 hours. And she constantly had these interludes where the room would go quiet, followed by soft music and text on the screen, everyone would sit down in their chairs. I had had a few beers + no sleep, and I guess that was that.

Amazingly I didn't have piss once during the whole 4 hour concert.

I can immediately think of a bunch of painters you'd prolly like or already do like.

From another time in general. All art is a reflection of the era in which it was created, the present bearing its imprint. A cultural mirror

I also just realized that last painting somehow reminds me of those last 10 seconds of Breaking The Waves. Which also strangely reminds me of the ending of Au Hasard Balthazar

Tbh I really don't know much bout painting/artists but I can definitely appreciate the work. Looking at some of those paintings it feels biblical in scale to be able to create something like that

Whew jealous of anybody that gets to see that for the first time. You should do a 2007 double bill and watch No Country as well.

Tangentially related: I'm bumping P.T.A.'s M.I.L. Minnie Rip rn

I feel like No Country more accessible

no way No Country is more accessible. The narrative structure alone makes it a more difficult watch than TWBB imo.
