Yeah i went from SNES and N64, to PS1 and PS2 (my most played console outside of 360), and I got a Gamecube a little late in its life but def put mileage on it
When Rez 4 was only on GameCube for years
Eternal Darkness
As different as games within the same genre could be
You have a gun and you shoot aliens its similar enough
But I was never much of a Metroid fan anyway. Bless its influence though otherwise we wouldn't have Dark Souls.
My mind was blown out of the gate with Mario 64 and Ocarina then I jumped to PS1 & PS2 shortly after and that's when I fell deep into it. Hours upon hours wasted on GTA and FF.
Only FF game I ever played was Tactics Advanced on the GBA
was never the type of game I was good at
Gamecube talk also makes me think about how long Nintendo has emphasized gaming as a social activity: The "handle" to bring it to friends houses, link cables, Wii being marketed at families, and then the Switch's whole announcement trailer was all about social gaming.
But then Nintendo also still makes connecting with friends over their online service (or playing user created content in games like Mario Maker) feel like you're typing in the Nuclear codes lol. Why they still doing this monkey's paw s***?
Like are they just really trying to force people to play together in-person by having convoluted friend codes? Or do they see the friend lists that have been a part of Xbox and PS for multiple generations and think the system is fine the way it is?
All these video game remakes are kind of annoying. Only generation it makes sense to do that for is the 5th and even then those games have aged to have their own unique aesthetic that works if you can place yourself in that time and place.

That is a very different game from the rest of the series

For the past few months i have really been wanting to buy a used PS2 just so i can buy and replay the first 4 dot.Hack games that came out on it (Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, and Quarantine). I f***ing loved those games when i was young.
Take a second to look up how much any of those 4 games are selling for right now — whether as a set of 2, all 4, or just each single game. When I saw that s*** i got so depressed

I think an FF7 remake makes perfect sense considering how the original is dated af. RE2 as well. Those games have aged terribly.

Metroid is all sci-fi horror atmosphere... Heavily inspired by the first Alien film. Invented the narrative technique of putting together snippets of lore you find around the world to piece together the story, which is staying truer to the potential of the medium than just having cutscenes that wish they were a movie. And, obv, turning the whole world into a giant puzzle with the item-sensitive exploration.

I don't know the answer but I'm here for Nintendo being one of the last bastions of local multiplayer
was playing mario bros with the gf yesterday, screaming and yelling at eachother as we go through levels together

You're not thinking of the billions of kids that missed those games cause they were too young
Asking them to "pretend it's the 90s so you can accept these graphics" is stupid

I know. I have played them after all. Metroid Prime/Halo comparison isnt at all a stretch though considering both came out at the same time and had similar themes/mechanics. Just Halo is combat oriented while Metroid is puzzle oriented. For it's time Halo's atmosphere/soundtrack was amazing.

I'm saying the mechanics are totally different but whatever stupid f***

Yeah gotta agree with this tbh. There are some timeless games that shouldnt be touched, like Donkey Kong Country or Ocarina of Time. They have successors anyhow. But games like FF7 and RE just run and look like absolute s*** these days. I cant expect a kid in 2020 to play that stuff.

Stop being a little b**** over Metroid, it's not that serious
