hmm tbh I haven't really read too many when I comes to music, I had my eye on the Miles Davis, Waylon Jennings, and Pimp C joints. All of them looked good. I remember my mom enjoying the Gregg Allman bio. Back in the day I read a Jack Nicholson joint that was good.
I want to read Norman Mailer's The Fight that's about the famous Ali v Foreman fight. I remember getting rec'ed the Steve McQueen bio too..
Broski I'm actually finishing up on your rec of Cannery Row
That pitchfork rap albums list almost rage baited me out of retirement to do a fam rap list but I will not fall for their silly game

Steve McQueen bio sounds interesting. I’m eyeing up Dean Martin and Keith Morris books
Steinbeck has clossics

It was a weird list, I liked they noticed Mac, Suga Free, Devin, Roc, DJ Screw, BG, KA, and Project Pat...
Maybe its heart is in the right place but somethings are just.. off

I remember hearing how even though McQueen was considered "The Cool" he was p complex and unhappy as a person.
And yea the Dean Martin joint I heard was good too, Nick Tosches wrote one. Same dude who wrote that Sonny Liston book I read a couple years ago and he got a great one about Jerry Lee Lewis

I think he was bipolar, could see how that would’ve been really rough back when we didn’t know how to treat most mental health issues
And I bet that Sonny Liston book was rad :datass:

I wonder which of our lists would be considered most ragebait worthy
maybe 90s to somebody not familiar with our group

its interesting, like these "legends" were from a different time. Like as people I mean. Those hardships built them. With Liston it was damn near ingrained in him since birth. Im sure plenty of actors, musicians, athletes, etc had a slew of issues. Could you imagine what was going through the mind of a Dennis Hopper haha

Bro you know what I hate, when these publishers print one of those "now a major motion picture" or that Netflix logo on the cover..

Yeah I hate that too. Or when they change the book cover to match the movie poster

Not sure if any of yall ever went through a post-hardcore/pop punk phase, but i was on a big nostalgia trip a few months ago listening to some of my faves from the late 2000s and ended up stumbling upon a more recent guy/band that I've been playing a lot of over the past month named Bilmuri (literally pronounced "bill murray").
You may have heard of him cause he apparently has a pretty decent following and i didnt realize until a few days ago that his newer music vids have millions of views lol.
Whats also funny is that he used to be one of the vocalists for that extremely kitschy screamo band Attack Attack from the late 2000s — the guys responsible for making this s*** popular lol. Seems like he left pretty early, even for that band's short lived career.
But he started making his own stuff years afterwards in the late 2010s. And his most recent album American Motorsports (420CC Edition) is really great if you're remotely into pop-punk/post-hardcore.
Bilmuri is like a decent mix of tongue-in-cheek genre stuff and typical emo content. Literally any of the music vids for the American Motorsports singles basically tells you all you need to know about him haha. But for what it is, I think he does a pretty great job blended different genres together — i mean a couple songs sound like half Maroon 5 and half deathcore, but it works.
And even though his lyrics and songwriting are essentially "what if someone like Justin Bieber/Ariana Grande made music that sounds like Four Year Strong/A Day to Remember"...the dude knows how to write some catchy tunes and hooks. He has a touring band but AFAIK he writes, records instruments, and produces everything himself for the albums.
Here's some of my faves, but i highly recommend checking out American Motorosports 420CC if you're ever in the mood to hear some fun poppy hardcore jams.

I got tickets to his current tour's final show here in Columbus, which should be a fun one cause he's from here (and still lives here as far as i know).

Uneven Compromise still one of the best things i've ever heard
I remember when he dropped that. Going from listening to Mista Thug to hearing that was basically all i wanted out of life at that point
That pitchfork rap albums list almost rage baited me out of retirement to do a fam rap list but I will not fall for their silly game
I'll do it if there's enough interest.
I need at least 10 lists doe

I listened to it a little bit when it came out. I think Aruji was really praising it a lot. Havent revisited but probably should. I do like Oblivion Access a lot
