    Depends entirely on your prog threshold. I'm in the same camp as Lester Bangs/Hoffman here when he says that The Box Tops (or The Kinks or any early rock and roll) could accomplish in 2 minutes what Jethro Tull could take hours to not accomplish;

    !https://youtu.be/ED3mufU58bk?si=-cntmo8j6lzUJJ4-

    except its not trying to accomplish anywhere near the same thing. and Tull got plenty of non-prog (and non-rock for that matter). looking for 2 minute Kinks rockers in a Yes song is just a fools errand its like being mad at the Beatles for not making jazz or something

    those type of rockist critics always end up way too focused on the coolness factor of it too IMO. some of those types that were discounting metal in general for being too lame or knuckle draggy or whatever. part of why i think that whole rock critic establishment like Christgau, rock and roll hall of fame, etc. are totally worthless. whole framing of everything is so narrow minded and way different from the way i find value in music

    It's not the "coolness" that I'm looking for (Ray Davies the opposite of cool) but the emotional directness I prefer. Obviously there are a lot of really long songs that I love, but the payoff is tremendous. I just hate it when prog bands jam pack their arrangement with too much bullshit (which is why Floyd were such a miracle).

    I still can't believe Genesis managed to temper their aesthetic so well for Lamb cause that has like ten beautiful and direct songs on it whereas they had none before.

    I already was set in my ways before I found any of those music critics but it's just nice to find one that agrees so heavily with you.

    yeah ik its not the coolness factor for you but for a lot of those critics on the side of disdain for prog or metal. not just critics but music fans in general, ties into the whole influence of image and aesthetics on music too

    crazy to me you feel that way about Lamb cuz that one was the most impenetrable for me initially. but yeah that change was the big Gabriel influence hitting

    Fly on a windshield, hairless heart, counting out time, the carpet crawlers, the chamber of 32 doors, anyway and the lamia are all impressively and instantly impactful

    Herculean feat of them to not f*** those up knowing their tendencies

    Carpet Crawlers breathtaking

    thinking you might like the first 2 albums with Collins lead vocals tbh

    A Trick of Tail definitely in the company of their best and has some direct melodiousness and emotional approach to it. just without the Gabriel-isms

    no idea and the words he's saying are already harder for me to understand in the first place usually due to his accent

    I mostly just watch playoffs and they were really good last year imo. Haven't been paying much attention to the season so far.
    I think with advanced medicine and training, these old guys will continue playing longer and longer so we'll see them for longer. It used to rare back in the day when a guy played 20 seasons. I feel you, though. But if I'm LeBron James and I'm still playing at an all-star-ish level, why not play till you're 40? Even James friggin Harden is still pretty good at 36-37.

    I literally had to think about who won last year for a second haha I guess the fact that I can’t even watch my own home team without paying turned me off.

    As for the players I guess im ready for new names or something
