I'd take Master obv, Phantom Thread and TWBB easily. Also Inherent Vice and probably Punch Drunk which also have hopeful endings.

OBAA is middle tier which still means great.

Inherent Vice is absolute trash and Joaquin is a pathetic person (in the movie)

The Master yeah fine. We agree on this one.

Phantom Thread no one would care about if it wasn't DDL. Like what even is that s***. Weirdo movie.

His character in Vice is alot more clever and crafty then he lets on completes his mission and doesn't get greedy. I think we already talked about this recently. One of my favorite movies for about 20 different reasons.

Phantom Thread would've been a masterpiece even if Pee Wee Herman played DDL's role. Ravishing stuff, probably the most beautiful film score this century. First movie my girl and I saw in theatre together and it's kinda "our movie". Had the score playing all the time when we fell in love

It's underrated for it's humor. Funnier than alot of movies that call themselves a comedy. Wouldn't expect stick up ass new yorker to get it

    One Battle After Another

Great movie but has some corny dialogue for the first time in a PTA film since the 90s. Was hoping he would get yet another career best performance out of Leo but I was kinda underwhelmed.

guy is all about power dynamics for a while now. He perfectly caught that in Phantom Thread tho when it comes to romance

    disagree very heavily

What are some examples of "human s***" to you?

Man even made Tom Cruise seem human. Magnolia alone is packed which human performances. Joaquin crying during the processing scene. Sandler going from anxiety attacks to falling in love. Alms breaking down DDL's walls to find the human behind them.

I would be fine if you said this about Kubrick or I guess Fincher but PTA of all people I don't understand.

    why not

  • Fincher good not great to me not sure why he's considered a goat

QT yeah he's a style over substance weirdo usually. Foxy Brown had some tender feeling a between Robert Forster and Pam Grier though. You're way way off about PTA.

or maybe I just don't understand what you mean. Answer my question; what are some "human s***" films?

Even DDL in Gangs, as vicious as that character is, is far more human and nuanced than the souless vessel that he was in There Will Be Blood

How is drunk Toshiro more human than drunk Joaquin breaking down as he admits be had s***with his aunt and left his girl

No disagreement there but that's the only case of his main character being a total sociopath. All his other films are full of human moments.
