I disagree, this and then joker was a crazy combo for JP and I'd prolly take this over Joker w/o context

plot is too fragmented without it working the way it was intended. The actual story is also underdeveloped, which definitely hurts the plot as well. I'd definitely take We Need to talk about Kevin and Joker over it.
Some shots are gorgeous though.

agree completely with this
i always laughed when dudes on twitter were tryna s*** on joker by saying "omg you plebs haven't seen You were never really here cuz its so much deeper!"
honestly think Joker is the best performance Joaquin has ever given. As great as Joaquin is in the Master, Joker as a film is dependent entirely on his performance and its an extremely emotional and physical performance and there are so many aspects to his character that are never said out loud in the script and are conveyed perfectly by his behavior.

Yeah but the movie is 1/5th the film Master is and that's being generous

I liked Joker a lot but yeah The Master is definitely better. And seeing joaquin play off of PSH is some of the greatest acting we have seen from this century.

Felt like I had never seen characters quite like that either. Seen plenty of Joker/Bickle types.

PSH's character reminds me a bit of Orson Welles but yeah, there's pretty much an acclaimed Bickle copy every second year.

As an actor but he never played anyone that charming and manipulative

well to be fair Joaquin's character is pretty comparable to those types. It's just that his presentation is a lot different because he doesn't have some kind of resolution to his arc and mostly just ends up being a degenerate the whole way. In some ways, he is more like the Joker in TDK, just without the theatrics.

kind of a cross between Paul Dano in TWBB and Charles Foster Kane but yeah one of his if not his best character/s
you ever get around to that Toby Driver album that scruff gave an 8?
quite an impenetrable piece of work, too fascinating to let go of, but I can't quite get myself to love it
Even though it's Kayo Dot the album is actually more Modern Classical than Metal. tbf I've known the album for a little while because it has been loved by a few rym'ers i follow so I had more time getting into it.
The first track is imo the most accessible by far. You have rhythmic theme and all that drony soundscapes floating around that, which increase or release tension until the Black Metal final. The second track sort of builds on a semi-serial piano, weird vocals and somewhat surreal guitars near the end. The third track is extremely subdued and dark and desolate. Not really a masterpiece on it's own but quite a depressing mood piece. The last track is one I still have some issues getting into at times. It's just weirdld beautiful. Reminds me of NEU!s Lieber Honig. Overall an extremely depressing and detached album.
Have y’all seen You Were Never Really Here
You should peep Ratcatcher, my fav Lynne Ramsay joint if memory holds correct
