to be fair Yorgos hype is a lot worse than Eggers cuz he gets all that praise when most his movies range from absolute dogshit to mid

i liked the Witch so it’s not like i hate Eggers, but yeah i just find Aster’s pretty provocative brand of horror more entertaining than the slow burns that Eggers makes. Lighthouse was just too f***ing much lmao

Found Aster’s style of horrors to be very appealing. The Witch is easily my fav film by Robert though, great film.

Eggers is one of the most gassed up filmmakers I have ever seen. He's not quite Denis level in that regard, but god damn he might really get to that if his movies keep just being above average and being called a masterpiece of its genre.

people really be on his d*** lmao i had someone tell me that The Lighthouse was their fav movie, and how it blew their mind, and that i was sure to love it. this was a week after it dropped

I found its slow paced tension and lack of need for most jump scares (instead often just including the freaky part of a jump scare silently in the frame) to be very unnerving at times

just cause it doesnt do what most s***ty mainstream horror movies do now doesnt make it good. the best part of the movie was the image of the severed head.

not yet, but with how the witch and lighthouse have been getting praised, I feel like he is going to start getting called the next Kubrick soon

I said that after wwitch alone

I meant not enough hyperbole as in like everybody should be sucking him off way harder

idk i find the hype over his most recent couple films to be pretty undeserved, but i REALLY like The Lobster.

personally there is stuff I loved about lighthouse. The sound design and cinematography is genuinely extremely enveloping and Dafoe is god level in it.

But everything else is just so mediocre or bad (the final scenes with Pattinson feel like a Yeezus stan directed a movie) that it is at best a slightly above average movie to me

I feel it was scarier than The Shining and I watched that movie when i was 15 lol. Most horror movies in general just don't have that combination of bold slow paced filmmaking and high production value to sell the effect.

you didn’t enjoy the part where the mom is having a mental breakdown cuz she thinks she’s going insane and doesn’t realize she’s being f***ed with/controlled?? that was my fav part, so emotional and scary

Had a handful of people over to watch it and we all just said meh when it ended. Usually were screaming and yelling and laughing for a good horror.

yeah i’ve never thought the Shining was that scary. imo “scary-ness” is highly subjective tho cuz it’s usually dependent on the viewer’s personal psyche and experiences. can’t really measure it

yeah I don't necessarily use scariness as a factor to judge a horror movie on.

Love the s*** out of the first Conjuring but its not scary. Same with The Shining.

I think what made me scared af of movies like Paranormal Activity, Blair Witch, or even Hereditary was that it always felt like I was watching something very new and cuz of that there was a degree of unpredictability.
