Like, I think Chris is supposed to be a dumbass, based on what little I know of the series, but there’s a certain cadence that comes in when the character stops being a character and you can tell it’s just the writer saying what they actually think.

Seth McFarland created and voices both shows. however he only really has creative control over American Dad right now. Seth just kinda works as a voice actorfor the people who write Family Guy nowadays and its been like that for years now. He has spoken about personally not enjoying certain aspects of the show right now but I don't think he cares enough anymore to take the reins again.
