I didn’t mean that as “one death is more important than another”

I simply meant it as people were treating Nipsey like he was one of the biggest artists out when he wasn’t popular.

I think a lot of it had to do with people just hopping on the bandwagon thinking “anothe rapper died! Gotta make him my personality!” Sort of that happened with XXX

And what I’m trying to tell you is that the literal year he died, 2 months prior to his death he had a Grammy nod.

The album dropped in 2018 and was critically acclaimed and debuted at #3 or #4 I can’t remember.

I’m not saying he was super popular but he had a strong cult following and he wasn’t super unknown.

KTT likes to judge how big an artist is by being viral or how much the internet talks about them.

Boy had a stronger core fanbase than some of the meme rappers Niggas gas on here lol

It’s kind of crazy watching people act oblivious to this when VL was one of the best received projects in 2018

    Ah, ok ok.

    Man that really sucks.

I honestly didn’t know he was on the come up like that. I can see why people would be upset that he was robbed of it all now.

I have a new perspective on it

Thanks for having a real convo about it with me

Nigga was a whole ass xxl freshman

Most people probably knew of him but didn't actually listen to any of his music until victory lap or right before he died.

But it’s cool to mock him because some out of touch old cacs with a show that lost its touch seasons ago thought they’d be zesty

The game is the family guy of rap. Made a career of dropping unnecessary references and name dropping, all other show creators/rappers knew how corny it was but it wasn’t until years later that we all looked back in shame that we enjoyed it

No one is ashamed of liking Family Guy lol

And to put it in perspective.

Victory Lap was his debut album.

His first official album gets all this acclaim and then he gets killed.

They only made that joke because they knew people would react. People cared about his death BECAUSE he was popular. There have been plenty of rappers that have passed (rest their souls) before and after that were not spoke upon and respected as highly as Nip.

    It’s just bad taste bruh

Damn I had no idea. I was scrolling through his discography on Apple Music earlier, and I guess all the albums on there are just old mixtapes?

I mean.. one was a beloved hometown hero who gave back to his hood and put money in black folks pockets..

and the other was a colonizer from a family who ruined the lives of plenty of brown people for generations to come.

I’m not offended by the Family Guy joke but I could understand why people were upset

I feel like it’s making fun of white suburban kids who don’t care about rappers until they die, for clout, I don’t watch family guy but I take that joke as making fun of ignorant white people not making fun of a dead man.

I guess that’s a perspective, I still feel the negative energy from it though and that may just be why.

talking about death shouldn’t be played with but it’s in songs, beefs, and jokes everywhere. some people we tolerate, others we don’t
