I never called Drake MAGA. I said he wasn’t MAGA. I called him an opportunist who only makes his opinions public when they are uncontroversial and provide a net benefit to his brand. He’s never going to pull a Chappell Roan and make the majority mad because of his beliefs. Is that a hot take?

I just don't think that's true. Of course he is not some incredible activist, but even the pro-abortion bar on Her Loss, that is a polarizing issue, especially in the US, and I'm sure a meaningful amount of his listeners wouldn't have shared his view.

No, actually, it’s presenting meaningful context for why this discussion is happening in the first place. Drake is not being called MAGA because he refused to denounce the White House. Drake’s associations with MAGA-adjacent public figures worked to form that image a few years ago.

Kendrick doesn’t have those associations, so to compare his silence over Money Trees to Drake’s is to suggest that Drake is only being called MAGA because of one (in)decision he made, which would be disingenuous.

Drake has done two songs with Nicki Minaj this decade and they clearly are not very close. Lil Wayne has done 1 song with Drake this decade and I don't think they speak much. He is not really "friends" with Akademiks, they are not close. Adin Ross sure but like, he's not travelling with Drake, at Drake's house, they did a few Stake streams and probably text a bit. I’m not going to take a good decision away from Drake. He was right to do what he did, on a moral and also on a business level, because in the long run he did take the more publicly agreeable position. I don’t think he has inherently bad politics. I just don’t think he’s ever going to risk letting his politics hurt his brand.

Which is not unique to Drake, by the way. Most musicians are publicly apolitical.
