    this is my thing. if you don't care about what he's saying, you would pretty clearly not care.

    but saying he's invalid or not going to be remembered while going on a twitter rampage (and getting Variety/Deadline to report on this s***) for an album review that happened years ago is not the look of someone who doesn't care. clearly you see him as pretty relevant and notable if you're losing your mind over it like this still.

    What exactly does he think that impact amounts to? Does he think he is more relevant to the average music listener than Halsey? Does he think the average music listener knows who he is?

    There is a very particular type of person who knows Anthony fantano and it usually involves being far more invested in music or being chronically online

    Whether he wants to admit it or not, Halsey is far, FAR more relevant than he is in the music space. Nobody gives a s*** about fantano

    Honestly don’t think this is even true. As far as music critics go he is pretty much #1 in popularity and impact. Can’t say the same for Halsey in her field

    Biggest possible ick you can get from an artist (besides domestic abuse and other illegal s***) is when they desperately crave praise from critics and then cry when it's not given or say "I never cared anyways!"

    fantano got me into death grips and godspeed you in like ~2013 which definitely had a big impact on my music taste and broadening my horizon ngl

    but yh basically a few years later I discovered rateyourmusic and saw that he's not doing a whole lot more than recite the rym charts to you, throwing in a bunch of typical rym nonsense rhetoric and pretentious babble overstuffed with adjectives

    you can even still see him posting his early youtube reviews on rym lol

    Although... there is also the negative impact of his bigger reviews also influencing the RYM charts
    It does seem that 'Fantano-core' albums get higher ratings than deserved on RYM e.g. Denzel Curry - Taboo

    The 'I've never said something as Edgy as...' bit is a lie & the final paragraph is absolutely trash, should've had a humbler response such as 'I'm proud I've managed to make a career doing the thing I love etc etc, even if it is a humbler existence than say being a superstar with 50m Spotify listeners'

    But overall it was valid

    the Fantano subreddit was recommended to me recently and I was surprised that his community was behaving like a snark sub about this and the Halsey stuff but then I remembered that that makes sense because they're probably all pussies. Fantano is performative and annoying but he's allowed to talk his s*** on this imo.

    I swear Fantano is only relevant because of his haters. Every time i hear about him it's because some fanbase or artist is triggered/butthurt because he talked s*** about their music.

    His gimmick has always been rage baiting fanbases and engaging with the music he's discussing barely at surface level
