I've been wanting to read Gods & Kings, but I never heard of Ametora. I'll look into it

Really details the entire progression of post-war Japanese fashion and how it developed simultaneously in the shadows of American fashion, very interesting. I particularly enjoyed the section concerning Hiroshi Fujiwara, Nigo, and Jun Takahashi

havent read all of these but will get around to it

    Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

    Why Materials Matter

    The Visible Self

    When Clothes Become Fashion

    Fetishism in Fashion

    this free course: coursera.org/learn/ideas

And of course you can get monographical books on single designers which is always interesting if you're a fan.

Personally I think fashion inspiration can stem from different things, so I don't particularly seek out fashion books. Music, architecture/interior design, animals, photography in general, hell even furniture or pottery, those all make me think differently about clothes and their imagery, thought I don't think the books above are a bad start/source really.

Facts, I hate the term but it's really an entire aesthetic that feeds into fashion. Look at the Grailed IG for example, it used to just be clothes listed on the marketplace but now it's basically a mood board, stuff from cars to concerts to scenes from movies are on there, which is where I get a ton of inspiration.

I feel that, I like looking at art/photo books too for inspiration. I have the Yeezy Season 6 Zine and alot of old fashion mags. Nothing too wordy tbh, for that I usually watch documentaries/interviews. But I like having the moodboard in my hand, which is why I prefer books.
