Really interested in getting into fashion photography so I’m looking at books by fashion photographers, or fashion house books that focus on pictures of people in the clothes. Any recommendations? Currently going through ‘On Fashion Photography’ by Peter Lindbergh

may not be as helpful with instructions but there are a few richard avedon books that are really popular.

also david lachapelle coffee table books are 10/10 imo

I’ll check it out! I actually don’t need books with instructions, just books that have solid shots of models in clothes I can learn from. I’m bookmarking pages with cool shots in the books I do have for inspo

my biggest suggestion is to not start with fashion, buy monographs and look at photographic works outside of fashion campaigns

I have a bunch of non-fashion photo books but every so often I like to pick a new theme to learn about. These past two years I’ve been really into mostly portraits but I wanna learn more about fashion photography. Not even for work or anything, just for my own hobby work or helping out friends

I really like Peter Lindbergh’s stuff because for the most part he’s shooting in “natural” environments. It doesn’t feel like he’s in a sanitized studio, he’s just out and about in the real world. So I guess I like work that uses mostly natural light and doesn’t have a lot done in post. Similarly I really like Wolfgang Tilmans stuff too!
