Mandolin ManIt's really about the fit. Most are made for labour with no aesthetics in mind.
Most are made slim, low rise, and with an ergonomic suspender length a la:
It looks like toddler's overalls and kinda gives the illusion that you've grown too big for overalls you bought while you were still growing. Although if you're going for a juvenile look I guess you should wear those. Doubt that's the general goal here tho.
If you have overalls that are bottom heavy and with short suspenders it looks more pleasing to the eye. Also looks kinda costume-y with striped tops and sneakers so it's better to just go with the workwear formula i.e boots and shirts.
Not having a bib also helps massively.

To add on the “paired with stripes it looks kinda costumey” point: i think the costumey look can be avoided if the pattern and contrast with the overalls arent too bold, as we see with nigel here

Admittedly this fit leans into the toddler aesthetic pretty hard but it’s an easy angle to take with orange trousers...everything is personal taste regardless, some days you wanna look like a serious gothic cowboy some days you just wanna dress how you feel!

It’s all about the waist/rise... overalls definitely look better worn traditionally, very high. But it’s also about creating a cohesive aesthetic with the overalls. How would they have been worn in the past? What textures coalesce well with denim? That’s the key to cracking overalls...

I’ve always liked the one piece suits, vintage French ones can be had affordibly. They’ve always struck me as the kind of piece you could really anchor your wardrobe around... put on your coveralls and then all you have to worry about is a jacket and kicks, if the jacket’s even necessary...
