That's what I been tryna imply man

I love ALL my American brothers I'm just sad you live in a place where you think this is the default answer and it's always violence

    The violence is insane

I s*** on europe for the memes but on average it seems like a better place to raise a family than most American cities

That is terrible, and I genuinely mean that.

But it also isn't the same as what you originally said. If you have a gun and fire a warning shot at somebody, the overwhelming OVERWHELMING majority of people are gonna get scared off and not come back. They aren't going to say, "Damn I need to come back stronger."

It already takes a very unhinged individual with nothing to lose to attempt something as extreme as burglary, so how can you know who will and who won’t? What if they just lay low and come back when the driveway is empty? How can you know? Why take the chance when you have a little girl and a family?

They made their choice man, shouldn’t have been trying to rob. I’m not on some congratulate the father type s*** cause it is messed up, but still

Like the trauma from someone breaking into your home and hurting you and your daughter?

idk im jus guessing killing someone is hard to deal after the matter

Why is that? You’d think a civilization 1000’s of years old would have laws to cover someone in a s***ty situation

Well, in Germany, you would have to give a warning shot first, and if it fails, try to shoot for the leg. Shooting three times is excessive force and couldn't be justified by just having a dude break your door. It would only be justified if the father was so much in fear for his (own) life that he couldn't be held accountable anymore. This wouldn't fly as self-defense here, but the judge would probably give him a reduced sentence because of the circumstances.

In the USA must states would just cover it with castle doctrine laws, which is what happened in this case already.

This is what's terrifying to us non-americans

the "law to take someone life" is INSAANEEEEE broo

This is so normal huh that's really wild

its really in the event that you have reasonable cause that you are defending yourself

its not like everything is going to be a villain monologue where they tell you they are about to kill oyu for 5 minutes with backstory and give you time to escape or run. no body dueling at dawn. you can wait around and find out, and get popped and die, or shoot the person (who you know) trying to break in your house despite objection and warning of a gun.

Also, "I had to shoot him because I didn't know if he had a gun" is almost an exclusively American argument.

Honestly take that whole argument out. End of the day, had to shoot him because he wouldn’t stop breaking into my families house despite excessive warnings and a locked door. Case closed. BEST CASE scenario after he crossed the line. Just need a new door now

It doesn't need to be that way and it's not your fault

Boyfriend broke in their home and killed her dad. This is just a response to the all the dudes in here saying shooting him was unnecessary. They don’t what type of timing he could’ve been on

Nigga he was let in and killed her dad because he was going to go for rape. Not the same as what the other guy was trying to do.

ofc not im just explaining some reasoning, tho not giving the historical evolution of various laws that fit the bill.

do you have a suggestion for a legal alternative that supposes how people should act in a situation like this?

idk, someone points a gun at me, I'm listening.

but i think americans are more likely to not listen and reach for their own gun, so now we have a shooutout,
sorry innocent bystanders but this is AMERICA.

this individual was obviously under the influence.

No suggestion cause I don't wanna be caught up in hypotheticals again and people a***yzing my made-up scenario looking for key words of what is wrong

Obviously one would be to not murder the person but that don't cut it for the thread we in
