love me a good film score
I'll pay close attention to the music from a movie when watching and then add it to a playlist later. movie/tv scores are perfect for studying or when you're trying to focus. I noticed that a lot of my favorite film scores are by the same composers. obviously you got your most famous composers like Morricone, Zimmer, Reznor, Elfman, etc. but there are a few contemporary composers that have been killing it in the past few years. these are some of my favorites:
Jonny Greenwood (of Radiohead. he's been killing it for Paul Thomas Anderson for a while now)
Jon Brion (musician behind Mac Miller's Circles. he's got some great film scores too. first heard him on Eternal Sunshine)
Emile Mosseri (newcomer but I really liked what he did on The Last Black Man in SF and Homecoming S2)
Max Richter (slow, emotional piano pieces mostly. loved his work on The Leftovers and My Brilliant Friend)
Nicolas Britell (killing it for Succession and loved his work on If Beale Street Could Talk)
Alexandre Desplat (been killing it for a while, loved his work on The Shape of Water and he really showed his range on Isle of Dogs)
Bernard Herrmann
Angelo Badalamenti
Cliff Martinez
Vangelis
Cliff Martínez's score for The Knick and Too Old To Die Young
Philip Glass has done some great scores too. loved the way Sam Esmail used this song in Mr. Robot:
Alberto Iglesias from Spain has done a lot of work with Pedro Almodovar, but this is one of my favorites of his:
that Blade Runner score so iconic
gonna add those Midsommar songs to my studying playlist too
Many GOATs already named, missing some love for Mica Levi tho
too many to name here @op, peep my rym ratings tbh
