  • No easy way to explain this.

We've a group project worth 30%, it's a group of 4. 3 of them are friends, and then there's me - it's self selected groups, I was the odd number in the class.

    The marks are weighted.
Person who did the most work - 30%
2 people in the middle get 25%
    Last person gets 20%

Aka you get graded out of a max of whatever you got above.. So if you did the least work, and the group gets 100%, you get 20%

I'm the odd one out in a group of friends, so I think I'm just going to get screwed over...
I don't know what to do

What kinda goofy f*** ass grading system is that?

Never experienced that and thank god. Like, I've seen if someone(s) doesn't hold their weight you can submit reviews, blah blah, they don't get full credit. But what this looks like from OP is no matter what 3 out of the 4 not getting full credit

    Can you explain this better

4 members in the group, you all vote - who did the most work and who did the least work.

If there's 30 marks going for the project.
Guy who get's voted as doing the most get's graded out of the full 30 marks.
The guy who get's voted as having done the least work get's graded out of a maximum of 20 points.
The 2 guys in between get marked out of a possible total of 25.
So if your group gets 100%.
1 guy gets the full 30 marks.
    2 guys get 25 marks.
    The last person gets 20.
So because they're all friends - that last person will probably be me.. even if I do the work

    Yes that's exactly it.
So if you're group gets 100% in the project.
    One guy get's 30 marks.
    2 get 25 marks.
    Last dude gets 20 marks..

It's a group decision, it can be appealed though.

I think it's quantitative too to make it worse.

Plus they've already decided to just start with one of the guys ideas.

Tbh I would talk to your professor about your situation ahead of time and if you get f***ed you have to above him and to the department.

I have had a situation similar to this and yes you have to go to the department head because if you don't college professors can be straight up authoritarian in every way. And college professors like to be different for no reason whatsoever

They are the definition of ego tripping on little power

I'll do what @Hndrxx_Free said, I'm gunna do nothing.

But nah I think I'll just tell him I'm doing that s*** myself, it's marketing. I'm good at marketing, I'm not good at working with guys who only want me there so they don't get the 20%

Was gonna suggest this. Going to the head of the department a clutch move. Unless, that professor is the head (which I've seen)
