Would do I think? Idk. Could me you take?
He's got a nice handful of truly great films, a large chunk of middling stuff, and some true stinkers
Looking back at all the ones I've seen, I really think the way he consistently released at least 1 film per year for such a long time, before slowing down to every other year on average, has really been his downfall as both a filmmaker and in the eyes of criticisms on his films.
Releasing so much so often has made the really bad films seem more frequent than they likely are, and his middling films have come to be seen as the norm for him, perceived as a bar he can hit often but rarely ever surpasses (assuming the viewer still believes he's able to at all). But his middling films can sometimes be surprisingly solid but often aren't given proper credit simply for being what they are — always measured against the "consensus classics" he made 40-50 years ago that still get mentioned in any article covering his work.
Like most icons from his generation, his output is among the countless other victims of pop-culture's two way street: it's either "they'll never top (insert popular film they made during the breakout of their career)" nostalgia, or the full-on recency bias showered on more recent pop filmmakers. Rarely ever are the people whose career started with the peak of their celebrity afforded a more measured approach.
He's still got some great stuff from the last 25 years or so — Husbands & Wives, Deconstructing Harry, Everyone Says I Love You, Match Point, Curse of the Jade Scorpion... Unfortunately, in the context of how many films he's released in that same 25 years, those 5 great films seem like happy accidents. But they're great films regardless.
Though i will say that pretty much everything ive seen of his after ~2001 has been mostly lame, with a couple struggling to be just mediocre.
weird person,
only movie i've seen of his is Midnight in Paris which reminded me of a school field trip in a good/bad way

In a "good/bad way"? Which is it? Lol
Saw a trailer to his latest film, the one he did with selena gomez and my god the dialogue and the overall tone of the film seemed so out of place, it honestly looked like a satire
Huge quantity over quality dude has some bangers tho like annie hall and midnight in paris

Not really a movie person, but I enjoyed a lot of movies last year.
Watched my first WA film, A Rainy Day In NY, and I got it on Bluray a couple days ago. It was nice.
never been a fan of his tbh. don't know what it is but his movies never grab my attention

the experience of Owen Wilson's character being taken to his favorite place in time paralleled the whimsical, exciting feeling of being a kid and having a day off from school (his adult life/responsibilities) and just getting to roam around
but it also felt slightly educational by just having all these historical figures like an episode of Magic School Bus which kinda bothered me and also like real school field trips
