Still have my PS1 copy from when i was younger. Played it to death. I still replay IX every couple years. Probably my favorite game OAT. Definitely my favorite game soundtrack OAT.

If you're looking to get one of the new "remastered" versions, I'd say it's worth the $20 (or play it on an emulator). All the different remasters (mobile, steam, ps4, xbox, switch) are just ports of the mobile remaster, and from what i have been able to tell they vary in the quality of experience depending on the system. I have it for mobile and PS4 it's nice, and the updated graphics are really noticeable tbh.

Only thing about the remasters is that they all come with gamebreaking cheats available to turn on at any time (deal 9999 dmg, have all equipment and 99 of all items, all key items, no encounters). The cheats are just to tempting to turn on if you're having trouble with something, and once you turn on all equip/items, there's no undoing it. So if you want the real experience, play it on emulator or the original disc.

They also have a fast-forward feature option, which is actually the one big extra feature that's good, because it can really make the game's high encounter rate and the battle intros seem less inconvenient.

The X/X-2 remake was great. I spent a long time replaying X on ps4, and i got halfway through my X-2 replay afterwards, but was burnt out on games and took a break.

X-2 also isn't nearly as bad as people constantly make it out to be tbh. It's definitely different, and arguably in a lot of ways a big step away from what makes an FF game a part of the series. But it's not a bad game imo. I mean, compared to IX and X it's stands out as lesser-than, but if taken on it's own it's a fun little detour. Not the total trash bullshit that the first part of FF13 was.

You might as well cop the FF12: Zodiac Age that came out a while back on PS4 too if you have the money. FF12 is also pretty damn great, just takes getting used to the combat/gambit system. It's really f***ing long too, you definitely get your money's worth — Main Story only is 60 hours; Main Story + Sidequests is ~90 hours; 100% completion is ~150 hours

theres some materia and i think aerith has an ability to recover mp but not being able to use items outside of battles really must suck
wouldve liked it more if they made ethers and potions really hard to find in hard mode
