Any experience on this? I've had animals come and go, but this will be the first true pet that I've ever had to put down and it's tearing my up pretty badly.

My cat of 8 years, has cancer and an overgrown tumor so next week I'll probably put him down and just want to hear from others who have done the same. Do they tend to be humane or does it appear to hurt them? They let you in there? How do you take them out? Because I want to have him cremated afterwards, and as far as that do you go to a standard crematorium?

its completely humane fam. they will probably give you a few mins alone to say goodbye and they can let you hold it while they inject them. They basically just fall asleep in a way. you can talk to them and they will take your pet and cremate them and they will explain the prices.

low key tearing up now from when i put my cat down

Sorry to hear that OP. One of the worst things about owning a pet is you unfortunately outlive it. Just appreciate the good times you had with them and know they loved you. Still think about my lost dogs throughout my lifetime to this day

    sorry to hear op

sending you all the best wishes

Not gonna lie a real nigga broke down in the vets office when he said there was nothing that could save my cat. Definitely appreciate them while they're here, I don't think I appreciated mine enough for all the things he's experienced with me.

@op sometimes it doesn't go smoothly. when I put my first cat down he started coughing and spasming like 30sec after the 1st shot to sedate him...I was yelling for them to come hurry and do something. I don't remember much else it was a long time ago and kinda messed with me for a bit.

however just a couple months ago my wife and I put her dog down who had lived an entire year past the doctors thought she would, comfortably too. but you like tell she was really starting to take a nosedive so we just gave her the best day ever with a bunch of treats and walks and then the vet came to our house and the whole experience of her passing was very calm and smooth. nothing like what happened with my cat.

so yeah, sometimes it's good sometimes it's not. they do let you be here with them. and I would call the vet and ask them for a pet cremation recommendation. often they can coordinate with the cremation spot and someone will be there to take them from the vet so you don't have to, but I think you can do the transport if you want of course.

sorry u going thru this but it's good that you're not waiting until the very last minute. it's not good to let them suffer even if it's hard to say when.

Is there anyway to save your pet? Change of diet? Supplements? Cancer medication?

I put my dog down earlier this year, i still blame myself for this

No he told me straight up after the x-ray he would do nothing for my cat. He's got a large tumor, and he said he has feline cancer. Asked if there was anyone who could do anything he said he could possibly send me upstate but that I have to be ready to pay 3500 and even then they likely couldn't do much.

Thanks for that, I didn't know they could link up with the crematorium like that so that will come in handy.

Yeah my cat is skins and bones frail rn though you can't necessarily tell from looking at him only feeling him. The vet said he wouldn't push more than 2 weeks with the cats current condition for the sake of suffering said he would essentially be bleeding and starving out. Which is crazy cause my cat still gets around when he needs to and f***s up some food, he just seems a lot less mobile and tired and his breaths are really really heavy. So it's like he seems like he's good for another little while but if he's suffering the way the doctor says I just want to avoid that for him

I put down my dog who I grew up with my entire life a few years ago. I remember on his last day he wouldn’t eat and could barely even walk. Awful experience and I still tear up thinking about it today

yeah it's hard. our vet told us she never seen someone regret putting them to sleep too early, only too late, if that helps your decision. no matter what it's so hard though..

Sorry for your loss OP. But know that they'll make it quick and painless for your cat. You'll be saving him from so much pain down the line.

Same position. He’s 3 months old. I try not to think about the future but i occasionally remind myself that I’ll outlive him

It does. Takes everything in me to not just keep him here. Lately he's just always laying in my bed and still gets so happy when I crack open a can I almost don't want to do it and just let him live out his days. But even though he's silent I see it in his breathes that life is getting hard on him and I don't want to do that.
