Notwithstanding the nostalgia, Friday Night Lights has all the elements that make it his defining work.
The sequencing is great. The hits, if you can even call it that, feel organic. It feels important listening to it. You get some of the best stories, the beat selection really sticks. It’s not some wild genre-bending once a generation album, but I think it’s his best one. And it wasn’t even considered an album back then.
