a sales thread for music is crazy

It's not at all. It's the music industry. Artists are making music for sale / consumption.

As much as you or I want to exclude sales, they are inherently a part of the conversation, because these artists are literally putting music out for people to buy along with putting together tours...to buy and merchandise...to buy.

This man stay getting cooked by the critics

I’ve never seen an artist as big as him get cooked so consistently

He's a rapper who sings a ton despite having an average singing voice while also trying to create smashes & #1 records.

His buffet style / approach to his flagship albums are truly a recipe for disaster as far as critics are concerned which is why at least online, the initial receptions of his albums are pretty mid to bad.

    IMO

alright cool, so critics and music journalists are also a part of the industry, they influence what albums are looked back at fondly and can even influence people to check out whatever they’re reviewing, whether it’s an artist or an album

glad we can get the consensus that this is a 5/10 album

Professional journalists using the term ‘mid’ just don’t sit right with me

  • Oct 9, 2023

And bangerless is definitely big cap

  • Oct 9, 2023

S*** funny at this point but damn journalism is dead

Yep. Won't even read the review, it tells you everything you need to know about their professionalism if they used the favorite buzzword of high schoolers.

Bro I know this is cap because the album has only gotten better with every day that’s passed

We won The lower the score the better when it comes to drake.

Drake didn't send the album early to any of these outlets but despite that a lot of them had reviews ready after a day. What happened to letting albums marinate and see how your opinion of it changes after a couple of days or a week? Journalistic ethics is in the gutter, you can't take any of them seriously these days. All about clicks and interactions.

I don't give a f*** about metacritc lmao if you wanna take anyone's opinion on something as subjective as music, sure idc

if you think the album is 5/10? Sure, eye don't care lmao no one's opinion on music has ever moved me, dead homies. I'm also not suggesting that critical reception is irrelevant. It's all a part of this. I'm simply saying I myself have never taken critical acclaim seriously.

What is a fact is that if an artist puts their album out for sale, then how can sales not be a part of the conversation? Just like critical reception. How else are we to determine if the people are listening to the music?

I was listening to Dark Sky Paradise earlier today. I could not tell you what it's metacritic score I swear to god. Bluebucksclan and Kalan Frfr are two of my five favorite rappers today, I do not know if they even have a metacritic score lmao
