You know how crazy it is to let anything inform your opinions on forms of entertainment?
Victory Lap one of my favorite albums of all time. I have no idea what it's metacritic score, his first week sales, I don't know or care to know lol Those things inform discussion and push discussion along, but niggas actually use those things to support their opinions on music, that's CRAZy to me
My favorite movies of all time ain't ever won an Oscar. Who gives a f*** bro hahaha
that’s not how grading albums work, this isn’t sports nigga
How it work then man
That's why I want to f*** the rating that pitchfork or similar gave to an album... if I liked it, I liked it and it's over
that must explain why Section 80 is pretty well acclaimed too
No one cares.
Victory Lap love
Young Nigga -> Dedication -> Blue Laces 2 -> Hustle & Motivate
That s*** sold 53K first week, I just looked it up for the 1st time 10 seconds ago. It's a bonafide classic to me. The story Nip told on the 3rd verse of Blue Laces 2 still hits home
I also like FATDs, and it's going to sell what, 450K first week? I like albums that sell a lot, don't sell at all, albums that have great critical reception, poor critical reception, whatever.
What you like / don't like abt an album is one thing. It's just weird for me personally when you use certain metrics to talk about why an album or a song is good or bad you know?
Maybe I'm tripping llol
How it work then man
you listen to the album as a whole right
you evaluate what you didn’t like and what you did like about it
and then you pick a number out of a metric (typically out of 10) that encapsulates how you feel about the entire record as a whole
no one is doing calculations track by track to grade an album
you’re s***ting on music journalism and don’t even know how it’s done
at least these journalists can put together a couple of paragraphs actually talking about the music
there’s like 5 users max on here that can even do that, their opinions weigh more than most of this site that’s for sure
Their opinion isn't worth more and it's about time people start realizing this. First of all most of these ''journalists'' don't have a deep understand of music, look through their curriculum vitae and you will realize this. Second of all we all know how dirty the industry is and how the label influences the ratings. Someone like Drake isn't licking their companies' arse and is not buddy buddy with them unlike most pop artists and certain rappers, so they have no incentive to give him a high rating.

im taking a music journalists’ opinion over a dude who obsessively stalks charts and sales to argue for the quality of an album, sorry not sorry
you’re no better than they are, you literally just have a different means to enforce your bias on this site, except it’s sad because you don’t even get paid for it
peak loser activity for sure

Nah I get exactly what you mean. I ain’t even know it sold like that until you told me and it still hasn’t changed that albums place as one of my favorites ever.
I fw with FATD outside of a couple songs, but that’s usually me with all of Drake’s albums all the way back to so far gone. I hate the numbers/reviews talk and the fact that it’s become a determinant of an albums quality for so many people or even just as an argument piece
You ain’t tripping lmfao

So you’re basically saying the score assigned to the album is arbitrary “a number that encapsulates how you feel” lmao s*** is hilarious bro I’m ngl

…that’s what music journalism is, are you slow on the roll or something?
Please continue

As expected you had zero arguments as to why their opinion should be valued more. Got it.
Next.
Because they’re rating it as a body of work, which Kendrick makes really well. Drake isn’t really an album artist and hasn’t been for a while tbh.
Drake got like 3-4 classic projects to me and to the wider public. Bodies of work that will be loved forever
Future isn’t a critic darling like Kendrick and I think he got the same amount of classic projects although music nerd reviewers would obviously disagree .
Let music critics tell it Vince staples makes more inconic music than future.
White and nerdy ass reviewers mean none nothing to ME. But I get it if they’re taste makers to YOU
genuinely mind boggling, a bunch of journalists with similar grades is arbitrary, but sales where it’s completely dependent on the marketing, promotions, gimmicks, hell even the climate of a particular genre isn’t arbitrary at all?
this site is a s***hole man lmfao

5/10, make sure you remember that number next time you hit play
I cannot talk music with someone who would willingly bring up a metacritic score or sale to tell me why they like or dislike the music.
So pitchfork’s review is mostly whining about the lyrical content as opposed to what any of the music actually sounds like. Same old complaints since Views.
I don’t think a single drake album has the critical reception it deserves. He’s like the opposite of Kendrick who’s the critic darling.
This point they just review him as a character they hate 💀
Real measure of drake music is real life , outside and somewhat sales seeing how much people are replaying his s*** in real. I don’t even love FATD as an album yet but it’s so extreme and exaggerated with drake compared to any other artist
life
Nailed it “they just review him as a character they hate”!!! Penning thinkpieces about his supposed misogyny and toxicity instead of discussing the different sounds on the album, flows he unlocked, the clever aspects of the songwriting etc
