Magic joins Daytona as the only real classic to drop since 2018.

Illmatic is a true hip hop classic, when you think of hip hop, you think Illmatic not a bad song on here in my opinion it’s truly a classic

    10/10 (Classic)

    Top Songs:

    Life’s A B****
    NY State Of Mind
    Halftime
    Memory Lane
    World Is Yours

It Was Written is an A+ tier follow up to Illmatic that isn’t quite on the same level mostly because of some weaker aged songs but it’s still an engaging listen and holds up well

    9/10 (Classic)

    Top Songs:

    If I Ruled The World
    Take It In Blood
    The Message
    Affirmative Action
    Street Dreams
    I Gave You Power

I Am… is the first real step down but it’s still a really solid commercial album that holds up pretty well to this day, it’s got some late 90s charm to it and I think it still holds up as a full album today

    7.5/10

    Top Songs:

Life Is What You Make It
    Nas Is Like
    We Will Survive
    You Won’t See Me Tonight
    NY State Of Mind 2

Nastradaumus is a massive step down and Nas’ first real miss, rushed and just overall very boring and uninteresting with a few highlights that I think keep it from being a total trainwreck

    4/10

    Top Songs:

    You Owe Me
    Project Windows

Stillmatic was a crazy comeback for Nas and he was just going at everyone on this album, his rapping was really A+ on this one, fantastic album

    9/10 (Classic)

    Top Songs:

    Ether
    2nd Childhood
    Got Urself A Gun
    One Mic
    Smokin
    Rule

Lost Tapes is a chill compilation of vaulted Nas songs over the years and for a compilation it’s really good it moves like it’s a real album, great addition to his discography

    8.5/10

    Top Songs:

    Doo Rags
    Nothing Lasts Forever
    Purple
    Drunk By Myself
    Fetus

God’s Son is a personal favourite for me, it took a while to grow some more but it’s a really really good album, raw and personal, some misses but the highs are really high

    Top Songs:

    Heaven
    Made You Look
    Thugz Mansion NY
    Dance
    Get Down

Street’s Disciple is an unfortunate miss, if it was condensed down to one disc it could’ve been something special maybe but as it is it’s too long and uninteresting, there’s a reason it’s never mentioned along other double disc albums, good or bad

    4.5/10

    Top Songs:

No One Else In The Room
    Thief’s Theme
    Just A Moment
    Me & You

Hip Hop Is Dead is unfortunately the worst album Nas has made in my opinion, dated bad beats, a corny concept that never works, and one of the worst songs Nas has ever made, album is just a mess and I hate it

    2/10

    Top Songs:

    Hip Hop Is Dead
    Hustlers

Untitled is a decent follow up to the messy albums before but overall it feels like a non-essential album to his discography, some good songs but nothing truly remarkable and some bad concept songs

    7/10

    Top Songs:

    Queens Get The Money
    The Slave And The Master
    Sly Fox
    Hero
    Untitled

  • Mar 27, 2022

Distant Relatives is another solid follow up with surprisingly good chemistry, but unfortunately there isn’t much that makes me wanna relisten, or write a full review at the end of this series, not bad but forgettable

    6.5/10

    Top Songs:

    As We Enter
    Patience
    Leaders
    Strong Will Continue

Life Is Good is a true late career gem and another bounce back after 10 years of mediocre albums, so good it would’ve been a really good final album and almost feels like it, definitely worth checking out and holds up today

    Top Songs:

    Bye Baby
    Stay
    Cherry Wine
    Loco-Motive
    Daughters

NASIR is unfortunately a disappointment upon re-listening again, it could’ve been something special with the Kanye West production but unfortunately the lack of songs and Nas not truly feeling comfortable on the beats holds it back from what it could be

    6/10

    Top Songs:

    Everything
    Cops Shot The Kid
    Adam & Eve

The Lost Tapes 2 is unfortunately a big disappointment following the first one, the leftovers are nowhere near as good this time and overall it’s a very forgettable release from Nas

    5/10

    Top Songs:

    Vernon Family
    QueensBridge Politics
    No Bad Energy

Kings Disease is the beginning of another Nas prime and another late career gem, to me this album is perfect every song hits the right spot and it’s the perfect length, fantastic album

    10/10

    Top Songs:

    All Bad
    Car #85
    Spicy
    Ultra Black
    Replace Me

King’s Disease 2 is another excellent follow up to the first, hard to find anything I don’t like with this album even if I think it’s slightly below the first, Nas really is a GOAT

    9.5/10

    Top Songs:

    Nobody
    Death Row East
    EPMD 2
    Moments
    Rare

Magic continues the trend of late career hitters from Nas and this is the best one yet, Nas feels like he picks up right where he left off from It Was Written and he’s just rapping his ass off and Hit-Boy is in his prime blessing Nas

    10/10

    Top Songs:

    Meet Joe Black
    Wave Gods
    40-16 Building
    Dedication
    Speechless

Overall my final discography ranking is

    Illmatic
    Magic
    Kings Disease
    Kings Disease 2
    It Was Written
    Stillmatic
    Life Is Good
    God’s Son
    The Lost Tapes
    I Am…
    Untitled
    Distant Relatives
    NASIR
    Street’s Disciple
    Nastradaumus
    Hip Hop Is Dead
