It can be used as a show also like a portfolio type thing for labels, advertisements & gigs + for doing contract related stuff like soundtracks for movies or video games etc.
But mainly for most producers its to put something iut there without any hold back or input. Just pure instrumentals made the way you want to the best of your ability without any compromise or needing to worry about an artist being able to fit on it or worrying about a beat for the club a beat for the radio a beat for the "real" etc. etc.
Just fully enjoying the music process and your potential & sharing it.
N of course maybe a dollar here or there.
