But Mal said drake was gonna break the industry

Drake is. When have we ever had an independent artist let alone one that was formerly signed to a Major and became arguably the biggest rap artist in the world and went independent during their could be considered 2nd prime

Wasnt the narrative that drake had a bunch of people in his pockets but he didn't care or something

He did when he was signed to Wayne Young Money Records and Wayne was signed to Birdman. Birdman Cash Money Records is signed to PolyGram Records (if I’m not mistaken) and Universal Music Group which Lucien Grainge has been for a while and is still currently the CEO of which is under an umbrella of companies ran by Tencent and Vivendi (who own Dailymotion etc) and Vivendi is owned by Bolloré who own BMW and Gameloft among other companies which is owned by Vincent Bolloré. So yeah he was signed to multiple people as is everything and everyone else. (I learned most of this from Kanye Sway interview but I still checked to make sure this was accurate in spelling and factual) But now Drake is signed to OVO Records which is different then OVO Sound and is licensing his music to Republic who is distributing his music on all platforms. Essentially creating a partnership between Drake via OVO Records and Republic to distribute his music while retaining his masters and the majority of the profits. Thus using the labels for the same thing as when he was signed to a Major but with more freedom to do what he wants with his music. And rupturing the labels because upcoming artists will see it is possible to be independent. Retain your masters and majority of profits and have a successful career. Main thing most independent artist have trouble with is creating beneficial relationships and partnerships and knowing who can help with what ie having a staff that knows what you need and how to get if for you

Ye stans have shifted the narrative from his music to his money. Who the f*** cares how much money he got forreal? That’s not why I became a fan

Real ones know that these numbers only mean success he has talked since about day 1. All his talk is getting real, 20yrs people always laughed, his name gonna be in history books, deal with it. It's literally only the beginning dont forget that, his children gonna 10x what ever he ends up giving them to continue

I mean he doesn’t need help with distribution because of how big he is but it just makes it easier on him I guess
