It'd be hard to call something a classic that I never hear anyone listen to

Well dudes be saying Drake has no classics just to discredit him so why can't I do the same to Kendrick?

Never heard a person say drake can’t rap in real life. The number of people I’ve met that don’t like Drake i can count on my one hand. I live in NY, niggas love Drake.

As do I. Drake does not get his respect as a rapper, undebatable.

    Yup

A lot of people just hear his biggest songs (which are, of course, the pop smashes, because that's what the masses eat up) and are completely ignorant of the incredible rapping ability he showcases on the lesser-known songs. It's sad tbh, they're missing out.

Exactly. How many people who reference God's plan even know about diplomatic immunity? Definetly not most of the casuals.

I always said Drake was a talented rapper but I couldn’t consider him all time because of the reference tracks and how similar a lot of the verses were to the reference tracks. Which confused me cause he wrote for other artists so why use someone else pen

If that's all Drake was, just reference tracks and leaning on other writers, then yeah he doesn't deserve to be in the discussion

If that's most of what Drake does, rarely writing for himself and relying on others to do the hard work for him, then he still doesn't deserve to be in the discussion

If that's some of what Drake does, like what <10 reference tracks and a handful of other small writing credits between QM, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and like that Starrah track among his 350+ song discography then I'd say he's still fine to be in the discussion

If you're wondering why he did any, my thought is if you can write most of your songs but churn a couple easy hits out cause you have a better flow, voice, charisma, brand, etc. then why not knock it out the park yourself. We know for a fact nobody would be bumping those tracks with QM behind them but Drake gave them his spin and they're legendary

I agree with you. He can be top 5 out right now. And he can be top 5 rappers of all time. But as far as top 5 lyricists he’d make my top 10-15 lyricists of all time because of the few reference tracks. And everyone above him hasn’t been accused of reference tracks (to my knowledge)
