This isnt your cousin who got jumped into a gang when he was younger because he had no choice, this was a leader of one of the most powerful gangs in the entire US that not only helped to destroy Chicago but also made d*** accessibility much easier and destroyed not only the communities where the d**** are grown but the communities in which the d**** were served (which is a massive part of why I feel he's not the average gang member who deserves a second chance).

He has faced the minimum sentence for one murder (of which he was an accomplice for multiple others so if thats his only crime he's getting the lightest sentence possible).

Obviously the violence didnt stop its a cycle, he was a cog in the machine, he's probably in more danger if he gets out of jail than in jail (unless he goes into witness protection) because of people who will want to take revenge on him once hes walking free.

I'm confused at this third point. I don't think incarceration is right always but theres a difference between being a pawn because thats the role you were forced into to feed your family or keep your loved ones safe and being the one calling the shots. Its not fair or right for these people to ever have to be put in this position, but you still have to be accountable for certain actions in your life. We choose jail as the means to punish these people, but if you dont remove them from these positions, the violence continues at the same rate. Theres no good answer, but its giving a pass to one specific person when so many others who have aided or personally done much less have to rot in jail. He's not just wiped of his actions cause he isnt a threat to society anymore, its bigger than that.

murder rate and innocent bystander deaths when Hoover ran the city were substantially lower than they are now. ask anyone from Chicago and they will tell you that the gangs in the 70s and 80s pushed more weight, were way less violent & actually had codes to their criminal enterprises

Aint just murder rate, thats the smaller evil in my eyes. He was a main proponent in the d*** trade in Chicago and the areas around Chicago, a literal d*** kingpin. That damages so many more communities than just the murders and is a large pinpoint for why murders happen in the first place. It doesnt just affect the gang members themselves, it destroys the people in those communities lives as well (along with all the communities affected by the cultivating and transporting of those d****). I'd say the d**** are the thing that did the most damage to the majority of those communities.

I’m not one to recommend shows for educational purposes, but d**** were going to be distributed in American REGARDLESS. i agree crack specifically has been the darkest thing to happen to our people since slavery, but it was literally INEVITABLE. a white person would have sold it if a black man didnt. those white people who did distribute the cocaine in bulk were mostly protected by the government, while the black people were front facing. They are both EQUALLY responsible, yet those whites never had to deal with the public scrutiny for their crimes

See I'm torned on this hoover debate cause on one hand serving 150-200 years is unreasonable, especially when his crimes are the product of an environment. He served his time and the only thing him still serving will do is waste tax dollars. And he most likely does not have as much influence to cause more harm, and could used that little influence he still has to do something postive for the community. I believe in redemption arcs

But on the other hand he has cause immense damage to Chicago, he may not be the cause of all the f***ed s*** going on in Chicago, but he played a major part in gangs damaging the city. And for all the people who has fallen from gang violence, I can see why you would want him still locked up.

If anything tho, move him out of solitary confinement.
