Last year, rap was pretty damn dominant both in commercial success(where even Pusha got a number 1 album lol) and quality.
2023 is just dryer by comparison and the media's pushing this narrative to shape public opinion.
I suspect it's because American pop is actually declining at a very fast pace and losing out to International music so they're trying to push the "rap is dying" narrative to help prop up the dying American Pop industry.
