oh wow, thank you enlightened one for telling us “mixtape = free, album = paid”

so when 50 Cent & Lil Wayne were selling physical copies of their mixtapes on the streets in the 2000s, those were actually albums this whole time?

also, Purple Reign was on iTunes with no DJ when it released too

    I hate this new cover

It remind me of that Erykah Badu IG post where she said he told her he was part Korean

you think the physical copies of their mixtapes with back cover art etc just spawned out of nowhere?

Gucci was putting his mixtapes on iTunes in the 2000s too

I just asked you what mixtapes they were selling.

Gucci also had those on live mixtapes.

mixtapes sites also uploaded albums from time to time

only difference between an album and a mixtape (if they’re all original songs) is whether the label decides it counts toward their contract

Sure. Which means it makes money for the label no?

When’s the last time a mixtape site uploaded an album for free download

mixtape sites don’t even do that for mixtapes anymore lol

labels don’t let their artists drop anything for free & they haven’t for years. maybe even a decade at this point.

Relistening to all 9 of his solo studio albums before Friday (he's got way too many projects to have done a full discography relisten in time)

    5/9 done

Pluto is a super fun time capsule of very early 2010s Atlanta rap: 8/10

Honest is a bit rough around the edges but has some career highlights (I think Benz Friends may be the most underrated song in his entire catalog): 6/10

    DS2 - certified classic, enough said: 10/10

EVOL, out of any of his studio albums, feels the most like a mixtape, not a great project but not bad by any means either: 7/10

FUTURE has grown on me a ton over the years, I think it's a big step-up from EVOL and serves as a great companion piece to the masterpiece he would end up dropping a week later: 8/10

High Off Life isn’t terrible music, but it’s the one Future album that kinda lacks a distinct sonic identity. A few great songs scattered about (HiTek Tek, One of My, Hard to Choose One, Too Comfortable), but overall just a very meh feeling from it as a collection. 6/10

I NEVER LIKED YOU is FIRE. Future sounds energized from start to finish, and I love what ATL Jacob is doing all over this album. Some of my favorite songs of his ever on here: 712PM, PUFFIN ON ZOOTIEZ, WAIT FOR U, LOVE YOU BETTER, VOODOO. There’s an immediacy and an urgency about this album that’s incredible. I could’ve done without the bonus songs but they don’t detract from the overall experience too much. 8/10

Now, we await The Real Me…

Future’s mixtapes are generally shorter and more rap focused than his studio albums

Also EVOL was announced as an album when it was revealed

Pluto was roughly the same length as the four previous mixtapes, while including multiple songs from those tapes. shorter than them without those singles.

BM & 56N were collab tapes with the producers, so they were shorter, but DS2 is just a couple tracks longer than Monster if you don’t include the songs taken from the mixtapes again.

Purple Reign is longer than EVOL (technically they’re the same length on streaming though, since they tacked Wicked onto EVOL).

Mixtape Pluto (is this a mixtape or an album? idk) is just as long as WDTY & WSDTY.

it seems like you were only thinking of BM & 56N when you said the mixtapes are shorter.

also, hard disagree on the mixtapes being any more rap-focused than the albums. unless you’re only comparing to HNDRXX & WSDTY lol
