The perfectly trash crime movies trapped between negligible VOD crap and prestigious Hollywood fare.

    Official Letterboxd List

The movies borrow directly from Heat, but they always turn out closer to Training Day. Fuqua's competency, Ayer's vulgar taste, and overqualified acting talent in the lead. Throw in some glorified cameos from rappers or MMA fighters if you can. That's the default mode imo.

  • Brawl in Cell Block 99, The Counselor and Blackhat transcend this list IMO, but glad to see Headhunters on here. Thats an “early days of Netflix streaming” classic. I’d throw the Statham remake of The Mechanic on there, and add Killing Them Softly and Out of the Furnace

  • I totally get what theyre going for here but The Frozen Ground was actually legit

I listen to the big picture podcast and one thing I still don’t understand is what he means by “garbage” (blank) movies. Like are they trash? So bad it’s good? Or what?

I think it's a statement on taste rather than quality. Meatheaded, trashy, stupid. None of that means bad. You can still have a great time.

Nah bruh how is End of watch, Wind River and Licoln lawyer considerer garbage?

  • UPDATE:

Tom Hardy in The Drop might be the dumbest character in any movie I've ever seen. Actual dog brain. Nothing up there. Mark Wahlberg couldn't have played him dumber.
