so when someone sees a conflict where apparently 'equal' forces send seemingly 'equal' responses towards each other we want to see them as perfect actors. in our mind they're fully capable of changing the course, so somehow choosing 'this' particular route for us seems unthinkable: why go for this non-nuanced expression if you're the perfect actor expected to utilize said nuance
