My issue with the Israeli Lobby thesis is that it prescribes a lobby that does exist that every country with enough clout has way too much power, it gets way too close to the classic neo-Nazi "ZOG" conspiracy theories and takes the totality of global capitalism and American geopolitical interests off the hook.

Israel does nothing without the explicit or implicit sanction of America, every time they have tried to go on their own path, they have been thwarted, they are America's b****, it is not the other way around.

How does Israel not block American arms sales to adversarial nations that claim state-sanctioned anti-Zionism?

When Israel tried to get closer with countries like Russia and China recently, why did America kill their deals?

Why did Israel let the CIA have backchannels to the PLO in the 70s (when they were actively partaking in armed struggle against the Israeli state) and gave one of their top guys a trip to Disneyland?

It is MENA realpolitik at its core and Israel is at America's mercy

Even Chomsky has written against it: chomsky.info/20060328

On one hand I agree that people understate the interests of the US w regards to Israel. But nah Israel definitely has more of a lobbying power than average states of their geopolitical weight so to say

And they needed it, because Israel is a unique settler-colonial project in that there is not any one imperial core home base, without the lobby Israel wouldn't survive. Sure, they get a lot of support from the US, and if it would go away, Israel would collapse. But Israel still uses and needs that lobbying power that they have and that cannot be understated either, it's literally how the country was founded

Chomsky has a weird way of posing a false dichotomy between structural a***ysis and lobbying or anything that makes him look like he could be deemed a "conspiracy theorist" by the liberals he gets along with

Very annoying form of respectability politics

So like...Isreal pretty much tryna invade Syria and Lebanon during this "ceasefire" and it's weirdos still supporting them.

It's really wild that we're witnessing this all in real time, so easy to see, but it's still news outlets and people acting like Israel is just defending themselves

Preciate this post heavy, always trying to learn more and have a more dynamic understanding of this and anything else

My post didn't speak to it because it was just a bunch of video links but I'm absolutely with you on Israel being an American tool first and foremost and that it's easy for that and American geopolitical maneuvers to be obscured and unaddressed in all of this

Would be foolish not to have that be one of the first things considered on this when there's literally an article on this page detailing America having weapon caches in Israel for a potential regional war and Biden trying to sign off on opening those up for Israel/saying there's no red lines in this genocide etc

@Scratchin_Bandit said it better than I can right now though regarding Israel's unique and powerful influence and how that can be ignored either

I was of the mind that anyone bringing up Israel's influence on America would always think of America as the power player in that relationship and how Israel serves its interests but I get how that can trend toward that ZOG stuff you mentioned
