as someone whose ancestors were Druze, if they still identify as israeli, they are part of the problem. they reap the benefits of identifying as israeli at the cost of Palestinian lives. there are Jewish Palestinians too.

well there were jewish palestinians, post-mandate israel essentially forced all jewish palestinians to be israeli so they could purposefully distinguish by ethnicity in citizenship. at this point i don't really believe post-settlership there's any way i could realistically see long-term co-existence of ethnicities in the middle east.

i'd be interested to see a breakdown of explicit ethnicity there, i don't know anything about that but i'd be surprised if the vast majority weren't ashkenazi given the biggest sources of immigration were USSR, europe, and america

Wikipedia says 3.8 million made Aliyah, 2.3 million from Europe (1.3 from the former Soviet Union), 560k from Africa, 500k from Asia, and 270k from the Americas. (Unless you meant Likud voter demographics, no idea there). Also the intra-Jewish “racism” you described was definitely prominent in the early decades of Israel and is still around but I think it is gradually being replaced by issues of religiosity as the main fault line within Israeli society, especially regarding the Haredim - a very large proportion of Israelis are of mixed Ashkenazi and Mizrahi ancestry

isn't the religiousness largely divided along ethnic lines anyway? like im pretty sure modern hasidim & haredi started in europe.

“fuck israel” to you means “it’s so mean what they do to Palestinians, but we should just let them keep doing it while pretending to care”

At some point civilians are going to get dragged in. It's the only way it goes at some point in war.

you need to be in the IDF as an israeli anyway its virtually impossible to be a civilian unless you're a child (or ethnically arab ); if you aren't in the IDF they basically deport or jail you. i think this is the real strongest argument for general insurgent violence, but its never brought up to the same extent general settler talk is

True - there are Mizrahi Haredim they are definitely the minority, it’s mostly an Ashkenazi phenomenon, but due to their religiosity, cultural conservatism, and isolation (I think there is a better word for this - like they stick to themselves?), they aren’t part of the Israeli mainstream and as they grow in numbers (and as I mentioned, the number of Israelis of mixed ethnicity also grows) it becomes more of a pressing issue and ethnicity fades somewhat. Again this is all my impressions

I think I’ve seen that there is some sort of obligation for the Druze to serve or at least be loyal to the state of the country they live in? Or is it just a tendency due to their minority and outsider status?

despite being a minor sect the ultra-orthodox and the like exert an absurd amount of influence relative to the rest of the jewish population. this is also true even in foreign politics - stuff like AIPAC is almost exclusively propped up by the orthodox.

It wasn’t just killing either. They pinned the women down and raped them next to their dead friends and then executed them. That’s why that dead German girl in the truck on that video had her olive coloured top and shirt ripped off her and her bra hiked up to her collarbone in the back of that pickup.

Same people that will claim what they’re doing is preordained by their God.

Y’all get y’all’s reality of war from COD

It's a mix of both surprisingly. Seen a lot of people saying he's an American Jew with the kinda privilege that should never even allow him to speak on what's going on.

that guy is a right wing dodo

Israel is probably the one country with the highest rate of its citizens directly participating in its countries atrocities

I can't say anything on this. War atrocities happen quickly when things boil over.

Plenty of noted times this has happened in war.

Gotta say though, Jewish people calling for a Holocaust for another group of people is a level of irony I don't think we've ever witnessed.

What's that saying about living long enough to become the villain or something?

Yes they get certain dispensations (regarding IDF service, government aid, etc). I think where it is most interesting is Israel’s religious drift (mirroring Turkey, Pakistan, Iran…) where it was founded as a secular state for the Jewish people (eg the right of return includes people who have paternal Jewish heritage only who would not be Jewish by religious law), and now with shifting demographics and context there is a growing segment of the population who want a state for people of the Jewish religion (but just as in Turkey there is a lot of tension about this)

True. I wouldn't go to that party. But slaughtering them was even more stupid.

RIP to Palestine. Nice going Hamas.

    Sir Real

Yall are debating with a guy who spent ten pages arguing why Scottish people should be given credit for inventing fried chicken instead of African Americans, just fyi

The Scots were known for frying chicken in fat, and they brought this cooking technique to America. African Americans, particularly in the Southern United States, are credited with adding spices and seasonings to the dish, giving it the flavorful profile we associate with Southern fried chicken today. So, it's more accurate to say that the fried chicken we know today is a fusion of various culinary traditions.
