When you think of Cameroon, you probably think of people such as NBA players Joel Embiid and Pascal Siakam . The excellence of these guys have brought attention to the African country. A sense of wonder, vitality, and resilience persists in this beautiful country. In fact, there are a lot of African Americans who are of Cameroonian descent. Most notably, Spike Lee, Erykah Badu, Taraji P Henson, and many more. What they all have in common, is that they have an eccentric personality. A persona that this Cameroonian bred artist has in spades.
Hailing from Doula, Cameroon. The son of a cultural promoter, he was born in a pastoral village. Raised by his maternal grandparents, this period introduced him to music, when he would hear the piraugas(canoes) sing on their return from the sea. As a teenager, he would be accepted into a school in Yakounde. Under the guidance of his French music teacher, Zane Daniel, he learned how to play guitar. This development would become a major stepping stone for his career, as it allowed him to become a guitarist for early 70s funk group, Les Crack. He would later enter a music competition, that led to him winning and scoring a local hit. In 1972, he traveled to France, where the fruits of his labour would be realized by record label, Phonogram and eventually prominent French producer, Slim Pezin. These opportunities lead to a successful array of solo material, spanning from the mid 70s to mid 80s. He would continue to sporadically release material until his death in December 2022, due to a long time illness.
Earthy and textured, like Ancient Egyptian papyrus, the late Brillant was such a treasure. His voice provides an air of history: creating an audio ode of his village heritage. The warmth, carefree spirit is present in songs such as "Yeye Ya Masoma" and "Cameroon Airlines". He's a dope guitarist as well, often stringing spiritually coded jams through his techniques. In Addition, the soundscapes really remind me of travelling in a jeep through a village terrain. It's lightly psychedelic but still feels raw. As seen in his albums Africa Oumba(1975) and Djambo, Djambo(1977), he's introspective and mindful of his upbringing. It correlates well with the rather safari funk instrumentals that permeate in each of his releases. The late singer was brilliant through and through.
RIP Ekambi Brillant. Y'all thought it was a drought huh well I'm back. Itβs been awhile but I'm still on my grind. Shout out to all the beautiful Cameroonians and those of descent. Much love to all KTT2 members of Cameroonian heritage

I love you bro @Aquilla. That last video is the type of music I grew up listening to all day every day, parents would play it at home and on road trips.
Look into Sukuma Bin Ongaro, this man is a Kenyan LEGEND
In this song heβs pretty much singing about this woman (who funny enough is from my momβs village) and why she keeps playing with him and questioning dudes from his village (him, me and my dad from the same village). This is a common Kenyan love tale hahaha
This dude is looked at like a local hero and eventually national hero. Most of the locations in the video blow my mind cause I been there like it was nothing
