the issue is treating mental health as if its purely a neurological disorder that emerges in a vacuum and can be fixed with d****, rather than something that emerges out of the material conditions around you

    for real

all that was going thru my head when I read OP was "what else do you expect to happen when kids are raised in a society like this one"

sleepin in til 12 isnt self care but labelling it as “laziness” isnt right too. sounds like its part of a bigger issue and they should definitely get that checked up. we got d**** for that.

see my first thought is to think this is a troll but if you've stepped on a college campus recently its honestly hard to tell

How come webMD is seen as unreliable? Sorry I'm out of loop

Looking through symptoms on there, you'd swear to God you had something.

Further research will show you that the same symptoms are tied to like 20 other illnesses.

It's a dark rabbit hole that even I succumbed to at one point and even laughed about it with my doctor.

This really is a huge problem, even bigger than how it’s stated in op.

And “real” psychiatric help isn’t even as easy to find as you think. If you go into one of those appts thinking you have mental disorder a or b, a lot of them will just go with it and egg you on to get as much money out of you or your insurance. It’s a real toxic issue in this country.

I think there need to be more professionals, especially affordable ones, that speak honestly about what people are going through. I think a large percentage of mental disorders and issues would be better treated by the patient simply taking responsibility for their actions and trying to become better.

It's a bit hard to step on a college campus tho when a global pandemic has suddenly hit your life, and although other countries around the world have found a resolution (somewhat), your country is stuck with this global pandemic and the thought of death is close to your door(or dorm, if you stay on campus)

So I can’t speak on America, but you wouldn’t see a psychiatrist for an eating disorder in Europe. That’s the last step, if needed

A GP (general practitioner) will be your first point of contact and offer you an initial diagnosis. The UK has over 54K registered GPs

Especially taking into account like.. for example manic or paranoid people. They’ll start thinking they have a million other issues, but if anyone else questions it they’re being ignorant or something. It’s dangerous.

not the whole generation, but it’s a trend among people in that age group.
