I've been watching horror movies with friends lately but besides a few moments, nothing really scares me much these days, I want that 'scared to turn the light off' lingering feeling afterwards. Does anyone have any good recommendations for stuff that really sticks with you?

For reference, the last thing I remember genuinely disturbing me like that was The Poughkeepsie Tapes

what are some genuinely scary movies that you've seen so far

Possession (1981)

The Poughkeepsie Tapes was good, INLAND EMPIRE, though not a full horror film, had parts that scared me on a really deep level, scenes from The Baby Of Mâcon really stuck with me, stuff like The Shining and a lot of modern A24 horror doesn't scare me much tho, but I do still enjoy them

Insidious was scary

Paranormal activity was scary

Blair’s witch was pretty terrifying the first time

Texas chainsaw massacre was scary

Asian horror is goated

The wailing, shutter, kairo, noroi

I was a horror kid so I kinda got burnt out as I got older

Paranormal movies are number one bullshit

The Exorcist & Sinister

One of my favourite horror sequences of this era (I’m not sure if we’re still in this era of horror but yeah)

Something about this gets me

maaan that scene with tiptoeing in the tulips scared me as a kid

These were alright but that demon girl was hot as f***

I once saw someone describe the ending of the film as 'as if it was directed by an alien', and it really rings true, feels like the movie itself becomes hostile and inhuman

I hate how they butchered VHS 3 tho
