Damn. Stacked.
Last year was honestly a solid year for movies I think people will look back on fondly.
By this time we already had Megan, Creed 3, Wick 4, Beau is Afraid, Air, Super Mario Bros, Dungeons & Dragons
And we’re not even getting into the summer event movies or the award season stuff yet
Not to mention how even more stacked it would’ve been if not for strikes. Challengers and Dune 2 were originally slated for Fall 2023
That's actually fair I guess. 2020 and 2021 were weak for movies in general. I felt 2023 was decent though.
k just 2020 was outright bad, and maybe we can blame that on the pandemic. the rest have been decent but not touching last decade on average.
2014, 2017, and 2019 each are absolutely crazy when you look into them. Been waiting for another year like that
2023 was a better overall year than 2019 imo.
2017 too looking at that list
Man I understand what you're saying, but you can't tell me 4 great looking movies makes the year a standout or a legendary year of recent memory when there are years like 2014, 2017, and 2019.
2014 is clearly the best year this decade, but all the other years (besides 2020) are pretty even imo

2021 was horrific
2021 was horrific
Ok, fine
Bottom three are 2021, 2015, and 2020, from best to worst
2021 was horrific
it was definitely Marvel overload but still had Dune, PTA, Macbeth. Old Henry was an underrated western.
2020 had Tenet and thats it basically

I don’t think 2015 was that bad at all, I’d actually probably rank it in the top half of the 2010’s… admittedly that may be due to how bad the early 2010’s were but I still like a lot of 2015.

2015 had one of the hardest top 5 films of the decade

I feel like 2021 felt strong at the time because a sense of normality was restored, but looking back ehh. With the exception of the names you gave and a few select others, it wasn’t that great.
Btw, I thought you didn’t like Dune?
or am I wrong?

yeah no year this decade looking particularly strong so far.
nah I f***ing love Dune. i grew up on Lynch's version and unironically consider it a masterpiece. due to that, it took me a few watches to fully warm up on Dune Part One (but I doubt youre remembering that). Gave it 5 stars last time I saw it.

nah I felt that way at the start of the year too tbh, s*** was looking bleak outside of the big 3 Elric mentioned + Furiousa
but I think it’s bc I mainly looked at the rest of the upcoming studio stuff which is all blockbuster slop. there’ll always be some decent smaller films along the way, they just peter out as the year goes on. Evil Does Not Exist, Monster & Challengers were all cool ones I liked so far
2011 & 2018 get slept on as movie years too, a lot of my favourites last decade are hidden in there
