watching the black and chrome version for the first time, I honestly might prefer this version. makes the overall vibe feel darker and more bleak

Absolutely a shame how much this is being overlooked in these 2024 end-of-year lists. Good luck getting another one like this ever again

This generation of letterboxd twitter cinephiles love praising cinematography, shots in motion, lens changes, color grading, shot composition, framing, etc. For some reason this movie didn’t get any love for it even though it insisted on so much impressive visuals for the entire runtime. In fact I remember the main reputation this had was “bad cgi” cuz the twitter crowd didn’t like a trailer. I don’t think this current gen of movie goers ever consider that the initial reactions/expectations could be wrong. They couldn’t have been more wrong in terms of how visually stunning this is. I hope George Miller gets to be insanely batshit crazy behind the camera like this again, or at least inspire the next filmmaker to be as bold.
