    No
I never bothered watching sac so maybe that’s good but the movie sequel was meh

SAC is top tier. 2nd Gig is too. The only thing not worth watching is that Netflix abomination and anything after that.

them going all out with the quirky bubbly Saru animation style and judging from trailers quite different music/sound is def interesting. I do wonder if it's the same plot of the classic film because direct competition with a top 3 anime oat is tough, overall seems like they're doing a smart move making this their own thing aesthetically though

SAC just landed on Criterion Channel too the other day and I've been meaning to check that out finally...

I finally got around to watching the original this year, what a f***ing classic

    Skeptical about this

Side note, are any of the sequels worth watching?

Oshii's GITS2: Innocence is pretty wild.

it has a very different look bc they experimented a lot w cgi alongside animation which at points can give ps2 graphic vibes and can come across jarring - but imo on the whole it actually fits the cyber meta madness of the material quite well, there's a lot of pretty stunning animation in there.

it's heady and philosophical kind of to the point of being ridiculous tbh lol and that + the animation def make it a trip and a half. not quite the masterpiece the og is but it's a very interesting sequel imo

this adaptation is supposed to be based off the manga so its gonna be a lot more lighthearted and silly than the movie. itll still have all the transhumanism and seriousness the series is known for theres just more of comedic and horniness involved

fun fact: the plot in the 95 movie actually comes straight from one of the chapters from in the manga, they just took a bit more liberty with it and removed all the gag moments from it

that's interesting I didn't know Oshii took that much liberty with it but that makes sense, that def makes me more interested in this since that means it's a fundamentally different take on the premise

SAC is much more in line with Oshii's style as well right?

  • I'm going to watch this first before I actually sit down and watch the OG series.

    i would say so yeah

its an original story too so while it does use some elements from the manga / movie its practically its own thing so it gets to fleshes out things that movie wasn’t able to do due to its timeframe
