Do you contact mainstream artists directly? Not sure how well cold dm'ing would get you

How would you measure the finances/getting paid aspect? i.e. charging based on skill/talent levels etc

My pen game's sick ngl. My streams ain't paying the bills and we're in 2009^2 economically atm

Its like anything in the music business. U work on ur own craft, network, promote ya s***, and if ur lucky u might get an opportunity. Its mainly about who u know and cold dming will never be a good way to build relationships. Work with artists on ur level and get so good ppl reach out to u

Also because of the oversaturation of the rap market and the economic issues theres probably not a lot of great opportunities for ghost writers, the pool of artists who would need that sort of thing is constantly shrinking, and the attitude towards ghost writers has become more negative. Most new artists are specifically picked up because theyre good writers themselves, the era of milli vanilli ass artists is over

If u need money i STRONGLY advise doing something other than music. Pretty much the only reliable ways to get money now is performing and merchandise. The game isnt nearly as easy to get into as it used to be, regardless of what ppl say. There was an era where if u were good it wasnt too hard to get in but now it dont work that way, everyone scamming and tryna make s*** pay to play

I know a decent number of extremely talented artists and even they struggle to get by off music

be confident but don’t forget to push yourself

First you need to write a song that someone else wishes was theirs. From there you make connections. I feel like this often takes 1 person to use a writer to open the gates for others to want to use you, as we saw with QM. Alot of times what you are selling a rapper isnt necessarily lyrics, its a vibe. With rap being more melody focused if you can sell a flow/melody thats so in pocket on the perfect beat for it for others to build ontop of, that would be your biggest selling point. I think a great step for you would to join my writing group that will form into some sort of collective after the first month

And to your other two points, this is true. A lot of uncertainty in the music business, labels moving different, obviously the whole world is in a lot of unknown. Yea scams, s*** economy, a grand reset to a lot of industries

I mean yea, sometimes the most talented get overlooked all the time. You probably live next door to one. This is why I been saying community is important, getting intimate with your actual audience/supporters and give them the music and work they want. Directly communicate with them

Appreciate it. This is what I look for. What you like and don't like. Not sure what you've heard, feel free to give constructive criticism on the catalogue

I always have to improve, sharpen any weakness. I know art is subjective but when it comes to mainstream or being the best quality, the most evolved I can be as an artist throughout this journey, of course I gotta focus on what makes quality and a great hit

Not just good enough, great. Mastery. Like I just said in this thread moments ago, put in a lot into this, but definitely willing to go harder every time, every day. I been raising the bar even for myself for the resources I have, but I'll keep going. I'm always here to push passed limits. Lmk

production needs a big step up specifically, and keep the writing simple but catchier and more universal

Learn about setting up the whats, where’s, and why’s of a song

Who are your fav song writers if you mind me asking

I feel that, agreed on the production. Got a solution to that. And mad at myself because I tell myself that -- keep the lyrics universal, in a sense dumb it down

For sure, create moments and set up the track intentionally

Good question; Ye, Eminem, Travis, Jay-Z, Fabolous, Drake, Nas, Big L, Kendrick, Cole, Ross, Wiz Khalifa etc favorites is tough, but yea Michael Jackson had it all and appealed to everyone

List goes on, old school and new school, but tbh since I've been huge on Trav passed 4-5 years, so it's like embedded in making tracks for the audience to go wild. It's not always rage/hype tracks though

Look into who helps those artists with songs, especially travis and drake

There’s a bunch of songwriters in rap that are the tastemakers of this s*** tbh if you dig past the surface

Learn about these writers in this space and understand their approach and you’ll be better off for sure

Just educate yourself more and you’ll do great
