are jiu jitsu gyms actually good? I feel like they're just moneygrabs for ppl that don't know how to fight but I want to learn
Yeah go to schools that show wrestling though. Jiu jitsu is still good for self defense, especially vs untrained people but it’s just not as dominant as it used to be. Every single fighter still trains jiu jitsu. There’s some scam places and cults but for the most part it’s good if you avoid them.
i wanted to start kickboxing or any other martial art that involves a lot of kicking, but i have a feeling that they're more prone to me getting my ass f***ing beat
Kickboxing gyms, especially Dutch ones have a history of just hard sparring and dropping guys for no reason lmao. You’ll definitely get your ass kicked doing that but that’s for almost any striking gym. Muay Thai is your best bet since coaches generally make guys spar light first. Most gyms in the west just do kickboxing and label it Muay Thai though so you have to find a legit Thai style gym
Same here. I settled for Muay Thai but loving it a lot
Idk I can think of how sport like kickboxing can come in very handy in a street fight, but the truth is most fights end up on the ground, so BJJ will be most practical i feel like
The most fights end up on the ground thing is some s*** the Gracie’s made up to sell memberships. Even if it goes to the ground you’re just using jiu jitsu to stand back up most of the time. If not you’d get your head kicked in by a random person or some chick swinging a bag at the back of your head lmao. The truth is you need a lil of everything but if you only could get 1 I’d take striking easily.
