I guess it has to do with some specific cyber security thing called crowd strike, so if you aren't connected to that you're supposedly fine

Yeah, it's a business grade antivirus.
I didn't realize so many companies used it lmao.
My company is actually getting off of it because it's way too expensive, so if this happened a week later we'd be good rn smh.
Just got word that every computer that blue screened will need to be manually repaired by IS onsite lmao we have dozens of buildings and nearly 20,000 employees. This bout to be a nightmare
Most laptops werent affected tho, mainly just desktops. So me and a few other staff have been able to do stuff
Holy s***
I'm back tonight so I'm hoping it was resolved but

It's not a hard fix at all. The issue is that someone physically has to do it for each individual PC. It can't be automated. I can't imagine having to do it for hundreds of PCs lol. I only had to fix like 30...

Yeah we easily have probably around 10,000 that need repaired across the whole hospital (including remote staff).
And there are different levels of repairs. Some people have a blue screen that gives them advanced options which allows IS to remote into their computer and fix it.
But the majority of people (including my entire office) have to wait on a different IS team to come with USB recovery sticks because their blue screens are either stuck on recovery mode with no options, or in a constant boot loop.
I was annoyed as hell when IS came to our office earlier and was like "uhhh nothing we can do today" lmao
And that's just MY team. My department has 7 different teams totaling over 200 employees, each with their own computer, and about 180 of those employees are remote workers. So the majority of them are required to come onsite with their computers to be repaired over the next week
If nothing else this outage gave me a real funny houseless person interaction
Tried to get some gas at a gas station by me that usually has homeless people outside of it asking for money and dude was like “ayo they got f***ed by a hack I know you don’t carry cash so you won’t be able to get any”
It's the result of an update to the widely-used Crowdstrike security software, thousands and thousands of computers across the globe are getting the blue screen of death
imagine you're working at this security company and just feeling super lazy so you just rush out this whatever update and it ends up shutting down airports and tons of systems worldwide
