I know someone probably already made this thread, but which game deserves GOTY?
I'm good with any one taking home the crown tbh.
Think Elden Ring got it comfortably. Best open world since BOTW and Xenoblade 2. Multiplayer. Much more content. Way more replay value. Fun and rewarding gameplay loop.
God of War is still by far the best western game that Sony has to offer tho. Leagues better than s*** like Spider-Man, uncharted, and horizon. Just suffers from the same thing that most narrative driven story games suffer from: the writing isn’t as good as they think it is and there are quite a few sections that are a slog to get through which tanks replay value. Combat is great but traversal is stuck in last gen. Some of the RPG elements feel shoehorned in and unnecessary.
I think GOWR would have greatly benefited from being an actual current gen game instead of a last gen game that runs a little better on current. Elden Ring is a last gen game too but I never really felt like it was being held back.
Elden Ring of you like RPG and new experiences in gaming.
Not Ragnarok if you prefer something else.

haven't played ragnarok but think this is where elden ring benefited from the game not being so focused on the overarching narrative, as well as working with that lazy POS martin. there's so much to do in elden and one of the only games i might have to play through 4-5 times just because there's so many different ways to play it

True, Elden Ring's one of those mind bending experiences that are truly magical.
I haven't played a game that made me feel giddy since Ocarina of Time when I was a kid.
The exploration & content is unmatched.
Ragnarok probably has one of the best narratives in gaming history though.
Both are masterpieces nonetheless.
God of war with that marvel writing and kindergarden gameplay
Meanwhile Chad Elden ring
Personally GOW ragnarok is my game of the year. But Elden ring will win goty at the game awards
Both are my top 2 for the year but for my preferences it goes to GOW.
That said I’m happy for it to go to either one :) both well deserving

I see Elden Ring getting GOTY and God of War getting Best Direction
Haven't played GoW:R but it'll take some miracle game to top Elden Ring for me this year so you know what my answer is

I wouldn’t even be able to tell you what’s really going on in any soulsborne game tbh. They always have deep lore and crazy stories but it’s not really laid out for you and it isn’t what’s driving the game. It’s always gameplay driven first and foremost.
You just go from area to area killing cool stuff and getting better at the game while you do it.
Even if you haven’t played it yet Ragnarok is very similar to GOW18 so that’s another thing working against it. Even a lot of the runic attacks and stuff are from the first game. Elden ring was soulsborne but a completely new formula that they somehow managed to nail insanely well. Just feels so fresh.
