New Godzilla anime on Netflix is pretty great. The way it recontexualizes elements from its entire 60+ year history from the most obscure stuff to the well known and makes it all naturally work is brilliant. The hand drawn animation is gorgeous and looks straight out of a late 90’s anime and blends perfectly with the equally gorgeous CG monster stuff. Being able to balance elements from Shin Godzilla to even the frequently mocked stuff from All Monsters Attack is impressive. Great cast of characters too. It’s just bursting with creativity and love. I really admire everything about this. You can tell huge fans wanted to make a new lore out of everything that’s already been explored and/or forgotten and provide us with something fresh but respectful.
